Tech. Description

Long Sleeve Draped Scarf Neck Jersey Blouson

A women's hip-length pullover top in jersey with long set-in sleeves and a two-part scarf collar: the left part wraps across the front and the long right end passes through an opening in the neckline seam and hangs down as a tie.

When To Wear

  • For the office with trousers or a skirt, as a top that needs no necklace or scarf.
  • In autumn and spring on its own, or under a cardigan or an open jacket.

Key Design Features

Silhouette: Straight, slightly widening towards the hem; a pullover with no fastenings.

Length: Hip length.

Collar: Left and right collar parts joined by a centre seam and folded in half lengthwise. Pleats at the centre seam and on the left part form soft folds at the back neck; the right part has a slanted end. The collar is set into the neckline and topstitched 0.5 cm from the seam, and the topstitching secures the ends of the opening for the right collar end.

Sleeves: Long, straight, one-piece set-in sleeves, sewn into the open armhole; sleeve and side seams stitched in one pass.

Front: Cut in one piece on the fold, with bust darts in the sizes that need them.

Back: One piece cut on the fold, no centre back seam.

Finishing: Hem and sleeve hems turned up and topstitched (twin needle or coverstitch).

Level Of Difficulty

Intermediate. Few pieces and simple seams, but the collar needs pleats placed by the markings, stitching to marks and an opening left in the neckline seam; knit fabric is sewn with stretch stitches or an overlock.

Fabric Recommendations

Knit fabric with low to medium stretch, made from natural or blended fibres.

Additional Supplies

  • No notions are needed: the collar is cut from the main fabric.
  • A twin needle or a coverstitch machine for the hems (optional)

Cutter's Must

If the patterns have a double contour, they include seam allowances. If the contour is single, the patterns do not include seam allowances. Seam allowances: hem allowance, sleeve hem allowance – 2.0 cm, all other seams – 1.0 cm. Attention! First, print out the paper patterns and lay them out on the fabric width (fabric width can be from 90 cm to 150 cm) to determine how much material you will need.

  • From main fabric:
    • Front – 1 piece on fold
    • Back – 1 piece on fold
    • Left Collar – 1 piece
    • Right Collar – 1 piece
    • Sleeve – 2 pieces

Tip: Knit fabric pieces are sewn with a special elastic or narrow zigzag stitch. The hem allowance is topstitched with a twin needle or on a coverstitch machine to maintain elasticity. You can also sew pieces directly on a 3- or 4-thread overlock. Before doing so, trim seam allowances to 0.7 cm.

Sewing Instructions

When stitching pieces, pay attention to the notches - they must match!

  1. Stitch the bust darts (if included for your size). Press the darts upwards.
  2. Stitch the center seam joining the left collar and right collar, press the seam allowances open. Fold and stitch the pleats according to the markings at the center seam and on the left collar, pressing the pleats downwards. Fold the collar in half lengthwise, right sides together, and stitch: on the left collar – from the edge to the mark; on the right collar – along the slanted and straight edges to the mark. Clip the seam allowances at the marks, turn the collar right side out and press. Lay the left collar over the right collar and baste together.
  3. Stitch the shoulder seams, press the seam allowances towards the back and serge.
  4. Stitch the collar to the neckline, press the seam allowances towards the garment and serge. Topstitch the seam allowances to the garment 0.5 cm from the seam, at the same time securing the ends of the opening left for the right collar.
  5. Set the sleeves into the open armholes (before closing the side seams), matching the notches; press and serge the seam allowances. Stitch the sleeve seams and side seams in one pass, press and serge the seam allowances.
  6. Serge the bottom edge of the garment and the sleeve hem, press to the wrong side and topstitch.
