Pattern #4853
Tech. Description

Side-Gathered Tie Blouse with Peplum

Introducing a stylish women's sewing pattern for a contemporary blouse featuring a gathered, asymmetric peplum and three-quarter cuffed sleeves.

When To Wear

This versatile blouse is perfect for a range of occasions where comfort meets chic, making it an excellent choice for:

  • Casual Outings: Ideal for a relaxed yet stylish look for everyday wear, coffee dates, or casual meet-ups.
  • Smart-Casual Events: Easily dressed up for office environments, brunches, or semi-formal gatherings when paired with appropriate bottoms.
  • Everyday Chic: a comfortable and fashionable option for adding a modern touch to your daily wardrobe.

Key Design Features

Silhouette: Relaxed bodice with a fitted waist defined by a gathered, asymmetric peplum.

Neckline: Classic rounded neckline, finished with an internal facing for a clean finish.

Sleeves: Three-quarter length sleeves, completed with tailored cuffs.

Waist & Closure: Features a front waist tie that cinches the waist and creates a gathered, asymmetric peplum, tying into a decorative bow at the left hip.

Hem: The peplum creates an asymmetric hemline, dipping lower at the front left where the tie is fastened.

Back: a clean, smooth back with a simple, defined peplum band.

Level Of Difficulty

Intermediate. Involves techniques such as gathering, constructing and attaching facings, forming cuffs, and creating a self-fabric tie.

Fabric Recommendations

Choose lightweight and draping fabrics that will gather well and create a soft silhouette:

  • Thin blouse fabrics made from natural or blended fibers

Additional Supplies

  • Fusible interfacing (for neckline facings and cuffs)

Cutter's Must

  • From main fabric:
    • Back – 1 piece on fold
    • Front - 1 piece
    • Back peplum – 2 pieces
    • Right front peplum - 2 pieces
    • Left front peplum – 2 pieces
    • Cuff – 2 pieces
    • Back neckline facing – 1 piece
    • Front neckline facing – 1 piece
    • Belt – 1 piece
  • From fusible interfacing:
    • Back neckline facing, front neckline facing, cuffs.

Sewing Instructions

  1. Fuse interfacing to the designated pieces.
  2. Stitch side and shoulder seams. Overlock allowances and press towards the back.
  3. Stitch shoulder seams of neckline facings. Overlock the outer edge. Place facings right sides together with the neckline and stitch. Clip allowances, turn facing to the wrong side and press. Secure facing to shoulder seams.
  4. Along the lower left edge of the front, stitch with a loosened upper thread and gather.
  5. Stitch side seams of peplums. Press allowances open. Place peplum pieces right sides together and stitch along the lower and front edges. Clip allowances at curves, trim at corners, turn peplums right side out, and press.
  6. Place the right peplum over the left and secure along the upper edge. Attach peplums to the blouse, matching markings. Overlock allowances and press upwards.
  7. Stitch the cuff into a loop, fold in half, and press. Attach the outer of the cuff to the sleeve, directing allowances towards the cuff. Fold the allowances of the inner side of the cuff inwards and topstitch into the attachment seam.
  8. Fold the belt piece in half lengthwise right sides together and stitch along the contour, leaving an opening. Trim allowances at corners, turn right side out through the opening. Hand-stitch the opening closed. Tie a bow and sew to the peplum attachment line.
