Tech. Description

Lace Yoke Blouse

A women's loose hip-length blouse with lace shoulder yokes at front and back, a split neckline with a three-button placket, a narrow neckline band and dropped-shoulder sleeves finished with cuffs.

When To Wear

  • In spring and summer with trousers, jeans or a straight skirt, worn loose over the waistband.
  • For daytime and office wear, where the lace yokes are the only decoration on a plain blouse.

Key Design Features

Silhouette: Loose, slightly widening towards the hem, with no darts.

Length: Hip length, with a curved hemline that rises at the sides.

Neckline: Round neckline finished with a narrow band made from two neckline facing pieces (one interfaced), the inner layer topstitched into the seam.

Front: Front cut on the fold with a slit at the centre; two plackets, each of two layers, are stitched to the slit, the right placket lapped over the left and the lower ends secured. Three buttons are sewn through both plackets.

Sleeves: Elbow-length sleeves set into a dropped shoulder line, sewn in flat; the sleeve and side seams are stitched in one pass. Cuffs are joined into a ring, folded in half and topstitched.

Back: Back cut on the fold, with a wide lace yoke across the shoulders.

Finishing: The two front yokes and the back yoke are cut from contrast fabric and joined to the front and back with the allowances pressed upwards. Hem overlocked, turned to the wrong side and topstitched.

Level Of Difficulty

Intermediate. A two-layer placket set into a slit with clipped corners, a neckline band and cuffs topstitched into the seam, and lace yokes joined to the main fabric.

Fabric Recommendations

Blouse fabrics of natural or blended fibres for the body; lace or another trim fabric in a contrasting or related colour for the yokes.

Additional Supplies

  • Lace or contrast fabric for the yokes
  • Fusible interfacing (one neckline facing, two placket pieces, cuffs)
  • 3 buttons

Cutter's Must

Seam allowances: all seams 1 cm. Hem allowance for the bottom of the garment – 1.5 cm. Attention! First of all, print out the paper patterns and lay them out on the fabric width (fabric width can be from 90cm to 150cm) to determine how much material you will need (don't forget to account for paired and symmetrical pieces). When stitching pieces, pay attention to the notches - they must match!
