Tech. Description

V-Front Stand Collar Jacket

A women's cropped unlined jacket with cut-on sleeves, a wide doubled front band that rises into a stand-up collar and ends in a point at the lower front, and a single decorative fastener at the front.

When To Wear

  • Over dresses and blouses in spring and autumn.
  • With high-waisted trousers or skirts, which show below the short length.

Key Design Features

Silhouette: Loose, cropped, with dropped cut-on sleeves.

Collar: The centre front band is cut in four pieces (outer and inner on each side), joined at the centre back collar seam and interfaced; it forms the front edges and a high collar standing away from the neck.

Front: Side fronts and the front band; the band is faced along the front and lower edges and its lower ends form a V-point; one decorative fastener at the front.

Sleeves: Cut in one with the back and side fronts, with an upper sleeve seam; finished with interfaced cuffs sewn into a ring, turned to the inside and topstitched.

Back: Two pieces with a centre back seam.

Finishing: Hem of the back and side fronts turned up 2.5 cm and topstitched or blind-hemmed.

Level Of Difficulty

Beginner. No set-in sleeves, darts or lining; the most careful step is facing the doubled front band and stitching its inner layer in the ditch.

Fabric Recommendations

Thin coating or suiting fabrics of natural or blended fibres.

Additional Supplies

  • Fusible interfacing (centre front band, cuffs)
  • Decorative fastener

Cutter's Must

If the patterns have a double contour, they include seam allowances. If the contour is single, the patterns do not include seam allowances. Seam allowances: all seams 1 cm. Hem allowance for the back lower edge and side front – 2.5 cm. Attention! First, print out the paper patterns and lay them out on the fabric width (fabric width can be from 90cm to 150cm) to determine how much material you will need (do not forget to account for paired and symmetrical pieces). When stitching pieces, pay attention to the notches - they must match!

  • From main fabric:
    • Back - 2 pieces
    • Side front – 2 pieces
    • Center front – 4 pieces
    • Cuff – 2 pieces
  • From fusible interfacing:
    • Center front – 2 pieces
    • Cuff – 2 pieces

Sewing Instructions

  1. Fuse interfacing to the designated pieces.
  2. Stitch the center back seam. Overlock the allowance and press it to the left side.
  3. Stitch the upper sleeve seam. Overlock the allowances and press them towards the back.
  4. Stitch the side seams simultaneously with the sleeve seams. Overlock the allowances and press them towards the back.
  5. Overlock the hem allowance, fold it inwards, and topstitch (or hem with blind stitches).
  6. Place the center front pieces right sides together and stitch the center collar seam. Press the allowance open. Place the center front pieces right sides together and face the front edge and lower edges. Clip the allowances, trim corners. Place the outer side of the center front onto the main garment and stitch along the front edge and neckline. Fold the allowance of the inner inwards and topstitch into the attaching seam.
  7. Stitch the cuff into a loop. Press the allowance open. Place the cuff right side onto the right side of the sleeve and stitch. Turn the cuff to the wrong side and press the seam. Fold the cuff allowance by 1 cm and topstitch onto the sleeve.
  8. Attach the decorative fastener.
