Most projector files are made from multi-size patterns: every size is drawn on the same sheet, and you pick out your line among many. That works, but it leaves a thicket of nested lines on the table and still assumes your body matches one standard size.
A made-to-measure pattern takes a different route. It is drafted to your own measurements, so there is only one outline to follow, and it fits the body it was drawn for. Delivered as a projector file, it goes from your measurements to your fabric without printing, tracing or grading between sizes.
One outline instead of many
On a multi-size projector file, lines for neighboring sizes run a few millimeters apart. Under projected light on textured cloth, it is easy to drift from one to the next, especially on curves such as armholes and necklines. Hiding layers helps when the file supports it, but many do not.
A made-to-measure file has a single outline for each piece, drawn with a heavy line. What you see on the table is the cutting line and nothing else.
Fit that starts in the draft
With a standard size, fit adjustments happen after printing: lengthening a bodice, grading between sizes at the waist, adjusting a sleeve. With a made-to-measure pattern, those differences are built into the draft from your measurements, so the pattern on the table already reflects your proportions.
That does not remove the value of a toile for important garments, but it moves you much closer to a good fit before the first cut.
How the Minerva projector file works
- Choose a model in the catalog and enter your measurements, or use the Standard Sizes quick-pick to fill in a standard size.
- Select Projector in the format list, and choose whether seam allowances should be included.
- The pattern is drafted in professional CAD to those measurements and delivered as one PDF sheet at true 1:1 scale.
- Lines are 1.76 mm thick and the sheet carries calibration frames from 10 × 10 cm to 80 × 120 cm and from 4 inches to 36 × 54 inches.
- Every piece is labeled with style number, piece name, cut quantity, grainline and notches.
Pro tip
Because the pattern is generated for you, nothing needs tracing or grading. Calibrate, check one frame, and cut.
Who benefits most
Made-to-measure projector files suit anyone who falls between standard sizes, anyone with proportions that standard grading does not follow, and tailoring and costume projects where the fit of shoulders, chest and waist decides whether a garment works. They also suit small studios cutting one-off pieces for clients, where printing a new pattern for every client is slow and wasteful.
Keeping measurements accurate
A made-to-measure pattern is only as good as the measurements behind it. Measure over light underwear or a close-fitting layer, keep the tape level and snug but not tight, and ask someone to help with back and shoulder measurements. Enter measurements in centimeters and double-check each one before ordering, since the pattern will follow them faithfully.
Frequently asked questions
Can I order a projector file in a standard size?
Yes. Use the Standard Sizes quick-pick on the model page to fill in a standard size, then choose Projector as the format.
Are seam allowances included?
You choose when ordering. With seam allowances included, the projected outline is your cutting line.
Can I also get a printable version?
Yes. PDF A4, A0, US Letter and other formats are available for the same models, so you can order the version that suits each project.
