Tech. Description

Flounced Front Collared Blouse

A hip-length women's blouse with a cascading flounce along the front opening, a shirt collar with the flounces caught into its outer edge, and long set-in sleeves with cuffs.

When To Wear

  • For the office with trousers or a pencil skirt, tucked in or worn loose.
  • For dinners and daytime events in spring, summer and autumn, under a cardigan or jacket.

Key Design Features

Silhouette: Straight and loose through the body, shaped with darts on the fronts and the back.

Length: Hip length, straight hem.

Collar: Shirt collar in two layers (upper and under collar), with a left and a right flounce stitched into each layer, so the flounces start at the collar and continue down the front edge.

Front: Button closure on the left front with 5 buttons, finished with a bias strip and a front facing; the flounce covers the opening. Darts run from the side seams towards the bust.

Sleeves: Long set-in sleeves with eased caps, finished with cuffs.

Back: One piece with two vertical darts, no centre back seam.

Finishing: Front edge below the flounce topstitched; hems of the blouse and sleeves overlocked, turned to the wrong side and topstitched along the edge.

Level Of Difficulty

Intermediate. Flounces sewn into a two-layer collar, a collar set between the fronts and the facings, a bias-faced front edge, set-in sleeves with cuffs.

Fabric Recommendations

Silk and viscose fabrics.
