Tech. Description

Fitted Lace-Up Blouse

A women's fitted blouse with princess seams from the armholes at front and back, a square front neckline and an edge-to-edge front laced with a tape through eyelets. Three-quarter set-in sleeves with a vent at the hem.

When To Wear

  • In spring and summer, with skirts or slim trousers.
  • Over a camisole, as the lacing leaves the centre front open.

Key Design Features

Silhouette: Fitted, shaped by princess seams running from the armholes to the hem on the front and back.

Length: Hip length, straight hem.

Neckline: Square at the front, round at the back; finished with interfaced front facings joined to a back neck facing, tacked to the shoulder seams with a 1 cm bar tack.

Front: Edge-to-edge, laced through eyelets along the front edges with a 0.5 cm wide tape; below the lacing the front edges are left apart.

Sleeves: Three-quarter set-in sleeves, eased into the armhole, with a vent at the hem.

Back: Centre back panel and two side back panels.

Finishing: Seams stitched with a narrow zigzag or stretch stitch; hem overlocked and stitched with a twin needle.

Level Of Difficulty

Intermediate. Princess seams, joined front and back neck facings, sleeve vents, setting eyelets, and sewing stretch fabric with stretch stitches.

Fabric Recommendations

Stretch cotton, or knit fabrics of natural and synthetic fibres.

Additional Supplies

  • Fusible interfacing (front facings, back neck facing)
  • Tape, 0.5 cm wide, for the lacing
  • Eyelets

Cutter's Must

Seam allowances: all seams 1 cm.

  • From main fabric:
  • Center Front – 2 pieces
  • Side Front – 2 pieces
  • Center Back – 1 piece
  • Side Back – 2 pieces
  • Center Front Facing – 2 pieces
  • Back Neckline Facing – 1 piece
  • Sleeve – 2 pieces
  • From fusible interfacing: Center Front Facing, Back Neckline Facing.

Tip: To keep the material stretchy in the areas of finished seams, stitch the cut pieces with a narrow zigzag or special stretchy stitch. To keep the bottom edge stretchy, the hem should be overlocked with an overlock stitch, and then stitched using a twin needle. The same applies to finishing other edges of the garment that should not lose elasticity. These recommendations do not apply to industrial production.

Sewing Instructions

  1. Fuse interfacing to the Center Front Facings and the Back Neckline Facing.
  2. Stitch the front princess seams (Center Front to Side Front).
  3. Stitch the back princess seams (Center Back to Side Back).
  4. Stitch the Back Neckline Facing to the Center Front Facings.
  5. Overlock the outer edge of the joined facings.
  6. Stitch the shoulder seams.
  7. Stitch the side seams.
  8. Stitch the joined facings to the front edges and the neckline, then turn the facings to the wrong side. Baste the edges and press. Tack the facings to the shoulder seams with a 1 cm bar tack.
  9. Stitch the Sleeve seam up to the notch, leaving the vent open at the bottom. Fold the sleeve hem allowance to the right side and stitch across the vent edges. Turn the hem to the wrong side, press and topstitch.
  10. Set in the Sleeves, easing the cap.
  11. Turn the hem allowance of the blouse to the wrong side and topstitch along the edge.
  12. Set the eyelets along the front edges and lace with the tape.
