Tech. Description

Tie-Waist Peplum Blouse

A women's loose blouse in woven fabric with short cut-on sleeves finished with turn-back cuffs, a centre back seam with an invisible zipper at the neck and a separate self-fabric tie belt. Tied at the waist, the belt gathers the body so it flares below like a peplum.

When To Wear

  • In summer with slim trousers, jeans or a straight skirt.
  • At the office belted, or worn loose without the belt on hot days.

Key Design Features

Silhouette: Loose, cut in one length from shoulder to hem with no waist seam; the shape comes from the tie belt.

Length: Hip length.

Neckline: Round neckline finished with a folded 4 cm bias binding turned to the inside and topstitched.

Sleeves: Short sleeves cut in one with the front and back, with folded cuffs sewn into a ring and turned back onto the right side.

Front: One piece cut on the fold, with bust darts in the sizes that need them, pressed upwards.

Closure: Invisible zipper at the top of the centre back seam.

Back: Two pieces with a centre back seam, pressed open.

Waist: A separate tie belt, stitched on three sides, turned and closed, tied in a bow at the front.

Finishing: Hem serged, turned to the wrong side and topstitched.

Level Of Difficulty

Beginner. Few pieces and straight seams; the steps that need care are the invisible zipper and the bias-bound neckline.

Fabric Recommendations

Firm blouse fabrics in natural or blended fibres.

Additional Supplies

  • Invisible zipper
  • Bias binding 4 cm wide, neckline length plus 4 cm (or cut from the main fabric)

Cutter's Must

If the patterns have a double contour, seam allowances are included. If the contour is single, seam allowances are not included. Seam allowances: all seams 1 cm. Hem allowance – 2 cm. Attention! First, print out the paper patterns and lay them out on the fabric width (fabric width can be from 90 cm to 150 cm) to determine how much material you will need. When stitching pieces, pay attention to the notches - they must match!

  • From main fabric:
  • Back – 2 pieces
  • Front – 1 piece (on fold)
  • Waistband (tie belt) – 1 piece
  • Cuff – 2 pieces
  • Bias strip 4 cm wide × neckline length + 4 cm (or ready-made bias binding)

Sewing Instructions

  1. Stitch the darts on the Front, if your size includes them. Press dart allowances upwards.
  2. Overlock the back edges separately. Stitch the center back seam from the zipper mark downwards. Press seam allowances open. Insert the zipper.
  3. Stitch shoulder and side seams. Overlock seam allowances and press towards the back.
  4. Cut (if not ready-made) a bias binding 4 cm wide and a length equal to the neckline length + 4 cm. Fold the bias binding lengthwise in half, right side out, and press. Place the binding on the right side of the neckline edge and stitch. Clip seam allowances. Fold the binding to the wrong side and topstitch along the fold to the main piece. Press the seam.
  5. Stitch each Cuff into a ring, press seam allowances open. Fold the cuff lengthwise in half, right side out, and press. Place the cuff with the wrong side of the sleeve and attach to the lower edge, press and overlock seam allowances. Fold the cuff to the right side and press.
  6. Overlock the bottom edge of the garment, press to the wrong side, and topstitch.
  7. Fold the Waistband (tie belt) lengthwise in half, right sides together, and stitch along three sides, leaving an opening for turning. Trim seam allowances at corners, turn the waistband right side out, and press. Close the opening.
