Tech. Description

Ruffled Front Blouse 3/4 Sleeve

A women's pull-on blouse with a gathered ruffle collar set along the back neckline and a deep, narrow front neck opening, three-quarter set-in sleeves and back darts. Front and back are each cut in one piece on the fold.

When To Wear

  • With trousers or a straight skirt for the office.
  • In spring, summer and early autumn, worn loose over trousers or jeans.

Key Design Features

Silhouette: Semi-fitted, with bust darts (included only for the sizes that need them) and vertical back darts.

Length: To the hip.

Collar: One strip folded in half lengthwise and gathered along its raw edges, running around the back neck and down both sides of the front opening. The left end laps over the right at the bottom of the opening; the collar is stitched in with the seam clipped into the corners, and the seam allowances are topstitched to the garment 0.5 cm from the seam.

Closure: None; the blouse is pulled on over the head through the front opening.

Sleeves: Three-quarter one-piece set-in sleeves, set into the open armhole; sleeve and side seams stitched in one pass.

Back: One piece cut on the fold, with two vertical darts.

Finishing: Hems of the body and sleeves overlocked, turned up 2 cm and topstitched.

Level Of Difficulty

Beginner. Four pattern pieces; the only careful step is setting the gathered collar into the front opening and clipping the corners.

Fabric Recommendations

Dense blouse fabrics of natural or blended fibres.

Additional Supplies

  • No supplies are listed besides the main fabric.

Cutter's Must

If the patterns have a double contour, seam allowances are included. If the contour is single, the patterns do not include seam allowances. Seam allowances: hem allowance, sleeve hem – 2.0 cm, other seams - 1.0 cm. Attention! First, print out the paper patterns and lay them out on the fabric width (fabric width can be from 90 cm to 150 cm) to determine how much material you will need.

  • From main fabric:
    • Front – 1 piece on fold
    • Back – 1 piece on fold
    • Collar – 1 piece
    • Sleeve – 2 pieces

Sewing Instructions

When stitching pieces, pay attention to the notches - they must match!

  1. Stitch the bust darts (if included for your size). Press dart depths upwards.
  2. Stitch back darts. Press dart depths towards the center.
  3. Stitch shoulder seams, press allowances towards the back and serge.
  4. Fold the Collar in half lengthwise, right side out. Sew a line of stitching along the long raw edges with loosened upper thread tension and gather. Lap the left end of the Collar over the right end and baste them together along the lower edge. Stitch the Collar into the neckline, clipping into the corner of the V, press allowances towards the main piece and serge. Topstitch the collar attachment seam allowances to the main garment at 0.5 cm.
  5. Set sleeves into open armholes, matching notches, press allowances and serge. Stitch sleeve seams simultaneously with side seams, press allowances and serge.
  6. Serge the bottom edge of the garment and the bottom edge of the sleeve, press to the wrong side and topstitch.
