Square Neck Pintuck Button Top

Pattern #2814
Tech. Description

Fabric & Materials

Fabric recommendations: soft knit fabric with medium stretch from natural or blended fibers. YOU WILL ALSO NEED: knit fusible interfacing, 5 buttons. IF THE PATTERNS HAVE A DOUBLE CONTOUR, THE PATTERNS INCLUDE SEAM ALLOWANCES; IF THE CONTOUR IS SINGLE, THE PATTERNS DO NOT INCLUDE SEAM ALLOWANCES. SEAM ALLOWANCES: all seams - 1.0 cm; hem allowance - 2 cm. ATTENTION! FIRST OF ALL, PRINT OUT THE PAPER PATTERNS AND LAY THEM OUT ON THE FABRIC WIDTH (fabric width can be from 90 cm to 150 cm) TO DETERMINE HOW MUCH MATERIAL YOU WILL NEED. WHEN STITCHING PIECES, PAY ATTENTION TO THE NOTCHES - THEY MUST MATCH!

CUTTER'S MUST

  • From main fabric:
    • Back – 1 piece on fold
    • Front – 1 piece
    • Front neckline facing – 2 pieces
    • Back neckline facing – 2 pieces
  • From fusible interfacing:
    • Front neckline facing – 1 piece
    • Back neckline facing – 1 piece

Tip: Cut pieces from knit fabrics are stitched with a special elastic or narrow zigzag stitch. When serging, trim seam allowances to 0.8 cm. The hem allowance is topstitched with a twin needle or on a coverstitch machine to maintain elasticity. You can also stitch pieces directly on a 3- or 4-thread overlock machine.

Sewing Instructions

  1. Fuse interfacing to the designated pieces.
  2. Fold and stitch the darts on the front for 10 cm from the top edge. Fold and secure the pleat on the front.
  3. Fold the front neckline facing pieces right sides together and stitch the neckline edge. Clip the seam allowances at the corners, turn the piece right side out, smooth, and press.
  4. Fold the back neckline facing pieces right sides together and stitch the neckline edge, starting and ending the stitch exactly at the shoulder seam line. Stitch the shoulder seam of the back neckline facing and the front neckline facing, inserting the front facing between the back facing pieces. Turn the piece right side out, smooth, and press.
  5. Stitch the shoulder seams, press allowances towards the back and serge.
  6. Attach the neckline facing to the main garment's neckline, press allowances and serge.
  7. Cut (or use ready-made) bias binding 4 cm wide and a length equal to the armhole length + 4 cm. Fold the bias binding in half lengthwise, right side out, and press. Place the binding along the armhole edge, right side up, and stitch. Fold the binding to the wrong side, clip the allowances, and topstitch along the fold to the main piece. Press the seam.
  8. Stitch the side seams, press allowances towards the back and serge.
  9. Serge the hem allowance, fold to the wrong side and topstitch.
  10. Sew buttons onto the front, securing the pleat.
