Tech. Description

Sleeveless Gathered Yoke Top

Introducing a graceful sleeveless top featuring delicate gathers at the front, elegantly integrated into a shaped yoke for a softly flowing silhouette.

When To Wear

This sleeveless top is versatile and chic, perfect for:

  • Everyday Elegance: A comfortable yet stylish choice for daily wear, from errands to casual meetings.
  • Warm Weather Comfort: Its lightweight design and sleeveless cut make it ideal for sunny days or as a breathable layer.
  • Casual & Smart-Casual Outings: Easily dressed up or down, suitable for brunhes, garden parties, or relaxed evenings.

Key Design Features

Silhouette: A relaxed, flowing A-line silhouette that drapes gracefully from the yoke.

Neckline: A gently curved, U-shaped neckline framed by the shaped yoke.

Closure: A slip-on design, embellished with three decorative buttons on the front yoke for a polished finish.

Sleeves: Sleeveless design with clean, bias-bound armholes for comfort and a neat edge.

Back: A clean back yoke ensures a smooth fit across the shoulders, flowing into the body of the top.

Hem: A slightly curved bottom hem, finished for a smooth and clean edge, hitting at hip length.

Level Of Difficulty

Intermediate. Involves techniques such as creating gathers, precise facing application, and finishing armholes with bias binding.

Fabric Recommendations

Select lightweight woven fabrics with good drape to enhance the top's flowing silhouette:

  • Rayon Challis & Viscose Blends
  • Crepe fabrics (e.g., polyester or rayon crepe)
  • Lightweight Cotton Lawn or Voile
  • Silk or Silk Blends

Additional Supplies

  • Lightweight fusible interfacing
  • 3 decorative buttons

CUTTER'S MUST

  • From main fabric:
    • Back - 1 piece on fold
    • Front - 1 piece on fold
    • Facing - 2 pieces
  • From fusible interfacing:
    • Facing – 1 piece

Sewing Instructions

  1. Interface the facing with fusible interfacing.
  2. Stitch the side seams, press seam allowances towards the back, and overlock.
  3. Cut a bias tape from the main fabric, 4 cm wide and equal to the armhole length. Press the bias tape in half lengthwise, right side out, align with the armhole edge, and stitch. Fold the bias tape to the wrong side and topstitch along the fold.
  4. Stitch the center seams of the facings. Press seam allowances open. Place facings right sides together and stitch the neckline. Clip seam allowances at curves, turn facings right side out, and press.
  5. Along the upper edge of the back and front, sew gathering stitches with loosened upper thread and gather.
  6. Attach the outer facing to the upper edge of the front and back, clip seam allowances and press towards the facing. Press the remaining raw lower edge of the facing to the wrong side.
  7. Press the seam allowance of the lower edge of the inner facing to the wrong side and topstitch into the facing attachment seam, simultaneously stitching the facings together.
  8. Overlock the bottom edge of the garment, press to the wrong side, and topstitch.
  9. Sew decorative buttons onto the front facing.
