Fabric & Materials
Fabric recommendations: medium-stretch knit fabric made from natural or blended fibers. YOU WILL ALSO NEED: 1 button. IF THE PATTERNS HAVE A DOUBLE CONTOUR, SEAM ALLOWANCES ARE INCLUDED. IF THE CONTOUR IS SINGLE, SEAM ALLOWANCES ARE NOT INCLUDED. SEAM ALLOWANCES: all seams 1 cm; hem allowance - 1.5 cm. Upper edge of side part – 1.5 cm. ATTENTION! FIRST OF ALL, PRINT OUT THE PAPER PATTERNS AND LAY THEM OUT ON THE FABRIC WIDTH (fabric width can be from 90cm to 150cm) TO DETERMINE HOW MUCH MATERIAL YOU WILL NEED (do not forget to account for paired and symmetrical pieces).
CUTTER'S MUST
- From main fabric:
- Back - 1 piece on fold
- Front - 1 piece on fold
- Side part - 1 piece
- Collar - 1 piece
- Armhole facing – 2 pieces
Tip: Knit fabric pieces are stitched with a special elastic or narrow zigzag stitch. The hem allowance is topstitched with a twin needle or on a coverstitch machine to maintain elasticity. You can also stitch pieces directly on a 3- or 4-thread overlocker.
Sewing Instructions
WHEN STITCHING PIECES, PAY ATTENTION TO THE NOTCHES - THEY MUST MATCH!
- Stitch shoulder seams. Overlock allowances and press towards the back.
- Fold the facing in half lengthwise, right sides together, and stitch the corners. Trim allowances, turn right side out, and press.
- Overlock the upper and lower edges of the side parts. Fold allowances inwards and topstitch.
- Place the main part and the facing right sides together and secure them. Lay the facing and the top onto the side part and stitch in one continuous line starting from the bottom of the back, along the armhole, to the bottom of the front. Overlock allowance and press.
- Make a slit on the back. Cut a bias strip for finishing the back slit, equal to twice the slit length + 4 cm and 5 cm wide. Press the bias strip in half lengthwise, wrong sides together. Mark the slit line on the back, cut it. Lay the back flat along the slit line, place the bias strip on the right side, aligning the edges, and stitch. The seam width along the slit length is 0.5 – 0.7 cm, decreasing to 0.2 cm at the bottom of the slit. Fold the bias strip to the wrong side, enclosing the seam, and topstitch into the stitching line.
- Cut a bias strip 2.5 cm wide and 10 cm long for the loop. Fold the strip in half lengthwise, right sides together, and stitch 0.3 cm from the fold. Trim allowances close to the stitching, turn the strip right side out, and straighten the loop. Adjust the loop length.
- Fold the collar in half lengthwise and stitch the short edges, inserting the loop. Turn the collar right side out and press. Stitch the outer side of the collar into the neckline. Fold the allowance of the upper collar inwards and topstitch into the stitching line.
- Overlock the hem allowance, press to the wrong side, and topstitch.
