A women's hip-length top for medium-stretch knit fabric, with short sleeves cut in one with curved side panels, a bound round neckline and a short topstitched placket with two buttons at the centre front.
Silhouette: Loose through the shoulders and upper body, drawing in towards the hem.
Length: Hip length.
Neckline: Round neckline finished with a 4 cm bias binding folded in half, turned to the inside and topstitched.
Sleeves: Short sleeves cut in one with the side front and side back panels; the underarm and side seams are sewn in one pass.
Front: Centre front cut on the fold, joined to the side panels by curved seams running from the shoulder to the hem. A separate placket with turned-under edges is topstitched onto the front and carries two buttons.
Back: Centre back cut on the fold, with curved seams to the side panels as on the front.
Finishing: Hem allowance 2 cm, sleeve hem 1.2 cm, both topstitched with a twin needle; seams sewn with a stretch or narrow zigzag stitch.
Beginner. Five pieces, a bias-bound neckline and a placket applied on top of the front; the main skill needed is sewing knits with stretch stitches and a twin needle.
Knit fabrics with medium stretch in natural or blended fibres.
If the patterns have a double contour, seam allowances are included. If the contour is single, seam allowances are not included. Seam allowances: Hem allowance for the garment bottom – 2 cm, sleeve hem allowance – 1.2 cm, other seams – 0.7 cm. Attention! First, print out the paper patterns and lay them out on the fabric width (fabric width can be from 90 cm to 150 cm) to determine how much material you will need (don't forget to account for paired and symmetrical pieces). When stitching pieces, pay attention to the notches - they must match!
Tip: Knit fabric pieces are stitched with a special elastic or narrow zigzag stitch. When serging, trim seam allowances to 0.6 – 0.8 cm. Hem allowance is topstitched with a twin needle to maintain elasticity.
