Sewing Instructions

  1. Place the calico pieces onto the corresponding outer fabric pieces on the leather side and sew with quilting stitches. Start quilting 1 cm from the edge, from top to bottom, with rows spaced 2 cm apart. When doing this, only catch part of the flesh side and gently pull the thread. Slash the calico around the perimeter, fold inwards, and sew to the edges of the fur piece with frequent stitches.
  2. Fold the gussets in pairs, right sides together, and sew with frequent overcast stitches through the edge without stretching the sides, ensuring no fur shows on the wrong side. Attach one more gusset to each pair of gussets in the same manner as the previous ones. Sew the center seam, making sure all gussets meet precisely in the center. Flatten all seams with a hammer.
  3. Place a thick FUSIBLE INTERFACING interlining onto the brim piece, which has been quilted together with the calico, aligning the upper edge of the FUSIBLE INTERFACING with the center of the brim. Baste the FUSIBLE INTERFACING to the brim along the upper and lower edges and in the center, starting stitches 1.0 – 1.5 cm from the ends of the brim. Fold the fur brim right side in, sew them together with the calico using frequent overcast stitches through the edge. Sew the ends of the FUSIBLE INTERFACING interlining. Turn the brim right side out, wrap the FUSIBLE INTERFACING with fur, folding the brim lengthwise into two layers. Baste the brim along the upper edge. Sew the LINING fabric strip to the lower edge of the right side of the brim with slight tension. Sew the inner part of the brim to the upper part with frequent stitches through the edge, ensuring the brim is not skewed.
  4. Insert the lower edge of the brim into the crown, attach in four places so that the centers on the crown and brim align and there is no skew. Sew the lower edge of the brim to the crown with frequent overcast stitches through the edge. Sew the LINING fabric strip with loose stitches.
  5. Join the LINING gussets with the FUSIBLE INTERFACING around the perimeter. Stitch the LINING fabric gussets similarly to the outer fabric pieces. Press seams open. Insert the LINING into the hat, align. Fold the LINING inwards and sew with frequent blind stitches.
