Sewing Instructions

  1. Reinforce FACINGS, FRONT PANELS, and FACINGS with FUSIBLE INTERFACING. (Heat-adhesive interfacings are ironed onto the wrong side of the piece with a hot iron).
  2. Stitch darts on FRONT PANELS and BACK PANEL.
  3. On the FRONT PANELS, create framed welt pockets. Reinforce the pocket opening area on the wrong side with a 4 cm wide strip of interfacing.
  4. Press the FACINGS in half lengthwise, right sides out. Stitch the FACINGS along the marked lines, placing them on the FRONT PANELS with raw edges towards the center of the frame. Cut the FRONT PANEL between the stitching lines, at the ends of the marked opening, slash diagonally to the ends of the stitching, without damaging the FACINGS.
  5. Turn the FACINGS to the wrong side, straighten the neat frame, and press.
  6. Stitch the pocket bags to the SEAM ALLOWANCES of the FACINGS from the wrong side. Turn the small triangles at the ends of the opening to the wrong side and topstitch them onto the pocket bags precisely from the ends of the upper stitching to the ends of the lower stitching. Trim and stitch the pocket bags, evening them out.
  7. Stitch the SIDE PANEL seams on the FRONT PANEL pieces from the main fabric and one of the BACK PANEL pieces from the LINING fabric.
  8. Stitch the FRONT PANELS from the LINING fabric to the FACINGS.
  9. Stitch the SIDE PANEL seams of the FRONT PANEL LINING and the other BACK PANEL piece from the LINING fabric, leaving an unstitched section in one of the seams.
  10. Fold the LINING with the vest right sides together and stitch the bottom edges, fronts, neckline edges, and armhole edges, stopping 1 cm from the armhole edges. Trim SEAM ALLOWANCES close to the stitching, diagonally at corners, and slash in several places on curved sections.
  11. Turn the vest to the right side through the shoulder seams, baste, and press.
  12. Through the unstitched section of the LINING's SIDE PANEL seam, pull out the shoulder seams and stitch them together. Fold the SEAM ALLOWANCES of the unstitched section of the SIDE PANEL seam to the wrong side, and hand-stitch the edges.
  13. Topstitch the vest along all edges.
  14. On the left FRONT PANEL, make buttonholes. On the right, sew on buttons.
