Cutter’s Must

From Main Fabric:

1. Back – 2 pieces
2. Front – 2 pieces
3. Side – 2 pieces
4. Center Front Facing – 2 pieces
5. Collar – 2 pieces
6. Upper Sleeve – 2 pieces
7. Lower Sleeve – 2 pieces
8. Patch Pocket – 2 pieces

From Lining Fabric:

For drafting the lining pattern pieces, use the following modifications:

• Back lining: use Back pattern, add a 2 cm ease pleat at center back, excluding vent extensions, cut 2.
• Front Lining – cut 2.
• Side – use Side pattern excluding vent extension, cut 2.
• Upper Sleeve - use Upper Sleeve pattern excluding vent extension, cut 2.
• Lower Sleeve - use Lower Sleeve pattern excluding vent extension, cut 2.
• Shorten the lining length by 2 cm at the hem.

From Fusible Interfacing:

For drafting fusible interfacing patterns, use the following patterns without any modifications:

1. Front – cut 2.
2. Center Front Facing – cut 2.
3. Collar – cut 4.

Important Information

Before cutting your fabric:

• Print and lay out pattern pieces to determine yardage.
• Check mirrored pieces, notches, and grainlines.
• For patterned fabrics, align carefully for symmetry.

Assembly Instructions

Preparation

1. Apply fusible interfacing to Fronts, Center Front Facings, and Collars.
2. Press from the wrong side with a well-heated iron and a pressing cloth for proper adhesion.
3. Mark all notches, darts, pocket placements, buttonholes, and vent lines clearly.

Front Darts & Side Seams

1. Stitch front darts as marked and press them toward the center front.
2. With right sides together, join the Sides to the Fronts.
3. Press seam allowances open.

Patch Pockets

1. Turn under the upper pocket edge to the wrong side by the seam allowance, press, and topstitch.
2. Turn under remaining pocket edges to the wrong side along seam allowances and press neatly.
3. Position each pocket on the Fronts following placement markings.
4. Topstitch around the sides and bottom edges, securing the pockets in place.
5. Reinforce the upper corners with small horizontal bar-tacks.

Back & Vents

1. Stitch center back seam from neckline to top of vents.
2. Stitch back side body seams down to vent notches and press allowances toward the center.
3. Turn the left vent facing to the right side along the hem foldline, stitch along the hem edge, turn right side out, and press.
4. Stitch the left vent edge close to the fold (topstitch).
5. Turn the right vent hem allowance to the right side along the vent facing edge, stitch, turn, and press.
6. Overlap the vents, placing the left vent over the right, and secure the upper edge with a diagonal reinforcement stitch (bar-tack).
7. Press the hem allowance up to the wrong side and baste temporarily in place.

Shoulders

Join shoulder seams of Fronts and Backs. Press seam allowances open.

Collar

1. Stitch collars right sides together along the outer edges. Trim corners, turn right side out, and press.
2. With right sides together, attach the lower collar to the jacket neckline. Clip curves and press seam allowances downward.
3. Stitch the upper collar to the Center Front Facings along the neckline. Press allowances open.
4. With right sides together, align Center Front Facings + upper collar to the jacket fronts.
5. Stitch continuously along the front edges, lapels, and collar.
6. Trim corners, clip curves, turn right side out, and press flat.
7. Slipstitch the inner neckline edge of the collar to cover the seam neatly from inside.

Sleeves

Two-Piece Sleeve Construction

1. With right sides together, stitch Upper and Lower Sleeves along front and back seams, leaving the vent extension unstitched.
2. Press seam allowances open.
3. Turn the vent allowances and hem allowance to the right side, stitch the vent corner diagonally, trim excess to 1 cm, turn right side out, and press.
4. Turn hem allowance to inside and press.
5. The sleeve vent and buttons are decorative—topstitch the vent overlap or secure with bar-tack if desired.

Setting the Sleeve

1. Ease-stitch between notches along sleeve cap. Pull threads to fit armhole. Steam-shrink the fullness and press lightly.
2. Set sleeve into armhole, matching notches, and stitch from sleeve side.
3. Press seam allowances toward sleeve.
4. Sew in shoulder pads.

Lining

1. Assemble lining in the same order as the outer jacket: stitch darts, join sides, center back (with ease pleat), and shoulders.
2. Stitch sleeve seams leaving a 20 cm opening in one of the sleeve seams and set sleeves into lining armholes.
3. Join Center Front Facings to Front Lining and upper collar to neckline of lining.
4. With right sides together, align lining with jacket.
5. Stitch continuously around the edges:
   • 3 cm of front facings along hem foldline,
   • Front edges, lapels, and collar.
   • Turn jacket right side out through sleeve opening.
   • Press thoroughly.
   • Secure the lower edge of upper collar to the back neckline seam of the main garment.

Hems & Finishing

1. Turn the jacket hem and sleeve hems to the wrong side and press.
2. Slipstitch the lining hem and sleeve lining hems to the turned-up hem allowances invisibly.
3. Tack the lining to seam allowances at shoulder and side seams to prevent shifting.
4. Work buttonholes on the left front and sew buttons on the right front as marked.
5. Work decorative non-cut buttonholes on the sleeve vent and attach buttons.
6. Final press: shape lapels and collar on a tailor’s ham, steam lightly, and let cool to set the roll line.
