Tip: Cut pieces from knit fabrics are sewn with a special elastic or narrow zigzag stitch. When serging, trim SEAM ALLOWANCES to 0.8 cm. The hem allowance is topstitched with a twin needle to maintain elasticity. You can also sew pieces directly on a 3- or 4-thread overlock machine.
Sewing Instructions
- Fuse FUSIBLE INTERFACING to the back and front neckline FACINGS.
- Stitch the bust dart on the FRONT PANEL. Trim the dart depth, serge, and press.
- Processing the keyhole neckline edge of the FRONT PANEL: Press the BIAS BINDING in half lengthwise, right side out. Place the binding right sides together with the neckline cutout, aligning the binding's SEAM ALLOWANCES with the keyhole edge's allowance, and stitch. Turn the binding to the wrong side and topstitch along the fold on the wrong side.
- Stitch the center back seam. Serge the seam and press open.
- Stitch the shoulder seams of the BACK PANEL and FRONT PANEL. Serge the seams and press towards the BACK PANEL.
- Stitch the FACING pieces together. Serge the seams and press. Press the short edges to the wrong side by 1 cm first, then the outer edge of the FACING. Place the FACING right side to the wrong side of the back FRONT PANEL and stitch the neckline. Turn the FACING to the right side and topstitch.
- Attach the lower BACK PANEL to the upper part, press the SEAM ALLOWANCES downwards and serge.
- Attach the lower FRONT PANEL to the upper part. Press the SEAM ALLOWANCES downwards and serge.
- Stitch the side seams of the BACK PANEL and FRONT PANEL. Serge the seams and press towards the BACK PANEL.
- Stitch the SLEEVE seams. Serge the seams and press.
- Set the SLEEVES into the armholes, aligning the NOTCHES. Serge the seams and press.
- Serge the bottom edge of the garment and the bottom edge of the SLEEVE. Turn to the wrong side, press, and topstitch.
- Cut 3 TRIM STRIPS 4 cm wide. The length of one strip is equal to the length of the bottom hemline +2 cm, the length of the other two strips is equal to the length of the SLEEVE hemline +2 cm. Stitch the strips into a loop. Press the longitudinal sides of the strip by 1 cm to the wrong side. Measure 1 cm from the bottom hemline and topstitch the strips.
- Fold the belt loop in half lengthwise, right sides together, align the edges and stitch at a distance of 0.5-0.7 cm from the edges. Then turn out, straighten the seam, positioning it on the fold, and press. Cut the belt loops to size and topstitch according to the markings. Insert a 2 cm wide leather strap.
