Handkerchief Hem Tunic

Pattern #5795
Tech. Description

CUTTER'S MUST

  • BACK PANEL – 1 QTY
  • FRONT PANEL – 1 QTY
  • Lower part – 2 QTY
  • SLEEVE – 2 QTY

Tip: Cut pieces from knit fabrics are sewn with a special elastic or narrow zigzag stitch. When serging, trim SEAM ALLOWANCES to 0.8 cm. The hem allowance is topstitched with a twin needle to maintain elasticity. You can also sew the pieces directly on a 3- or 4-thread overlock machine.

Sewing Instructions

  1. Stitch the shoulder and side seams of the BACK PANEL and FRONT PANEL. Serge the seams and press them towards the BACK PANEL.
  2. Serge the side and bottom edges of the lower part. Fold and topstitch the bottom edge first, then the side edges.
  3. Place the lower part and the FRONT PANEL right sides together, aligning the corresponding NOTCHES. Please note: the length of the BODICE edge is 2 cm longer than the lower part edge (1 cm on each side). This is normal. Attach the lower part to the upper part, press the SEAM ALLOWANCES downwards and serge.
  4. Stitch the SLEEVE seams. Serge the seams and press.
  5. Set the SLEEVES into the armholes, aligning the NOTCHES. Serge the seams and press.
  6. Serge the neckline edge, fold and topstitch.
