Grading up a small block simply makes it bigger everywhere; a pattern built for your figure puts the room where a curved body actually needs it.

That distinction matters most through the bust, waist and hip, where the ratio between measurements changes across bodies. Minerva calculates dart depth, side seam shaping and ease from the numbers you enter, so a plus size dress or trouser is proportioned for you rather than stretched to cover a larger frame.

Many plus size patterns are just a base size enlarged, which distorts armholes, necklines and rise. Made-to-measure drafting instead re-derives the shaping at your measurements, keeping proportions true so the garment fits and flatters rather than merely covering.
