Tech. Description

Lace Babydoll with Front Ties

A short women's babydoll with a halter neck in guipure lace and a front that is open from neck to hem, closed with two pairs of decorative cord ties. The back is a single plain piece with a straight top edge.

When To Wear

  • As lingerie or a nightie for the bedroom.
  • Over matching briefs, with the ties loosened or tied.

Key Design Features

Silhouette: Straight and loose below the bust, slightly widening to the hem.

Length: Short, upper-thigh length.

Neckline: Deep V halter. The two guipure upper fronts, shaped with darts, are joined in one seam and pass behind the neck.

Front: Guipure upper front sewn to two lower front pieces. The front edges are turned and topstitched and the garment stays open down the centre, held by four cord ends tied into two bows.

Back: One piece with a straight upper edge, joining the front at the sides below the arms.

Finishing: Neckline and outer edges of the lace turned to the wrong side and topstitched, with 0.5 cm elastic zigzagged along them, cut 10% shorter, to stop the lace stretching. Side seams pressed towards the back; upper edge and hem turned and topstitched.

Level Of Difficulty

Beginner. Few pieces, darts in guipure, edges turned and topstitched, and a narrow elastic stay along the lace.

Fabric Recommendations

Fabrics of natural or blended fibres for the body; guipure for the upper front.

Additional Supplies

  • Elastic, 0.5 cm wide
  • Decorative cord (cut into 4 pieces for the ties)

Cutter's Must

  • From main fabric:
    1. Back – 1 piece
    2. Lower front – 2 pieces
  • From guipure:
    1. Upper front – 2 pieces

Sewing Instructions

  1. Mark and stitch darts on the guipure piece. Overlock, simultaneously trimming dart depths.
  2. Stitch the upper front PANELs together, press seam allowances open and overlock.
  3. Overlock the neckline edge and the outer edge of the upper front, press to the wrong side and topstitch. To prevent stretching of the upper front, topstitch elastic trim strip with a zigzag stitch along the neckline and outer edge on the wrong side, stretching it slightly. The trim strip should be 10% shorter than the piece.
  4. Overlock the front edge of the lower front, press to the wrong side and topstitch.
  5. Attach the upper front to the lower front. Stitch the side edges, press seam allowances towards the back and overlock. Overlock the seam allowance for attaching the upper front to the lower, including the remaining upper edge of the lower front and the upper edge of the back.
  6. Press the upper edge seam allowance to the wrong side and topstitch.
  7. Overlock the lower edge of the back and front, press to the wrong side and topstitch.
  8. Cut the decorative cord into 4 pieces and sew to the front edge of the front.
