Sewing Instructions

  1. Fuse interfacing to the Front And Strap Facings and the Back Facings.
  2. Stitch the center seam and the princess seams on the front (Middle Front and Side Front). Finish the seam allowances. Press the center seam to the left and the princess seams towards the center.
  3. Stitch the princess seams of the back (Middle Back and Side Back) and the center back seam, leaving the opening for the zipper unstitched. Finish the seams, press the princess seams towards the center.
  4. Stitch the side seams, finish them and press towards the front.
  5. From the Bias Tape, make the narrowest possible rouleau. Cut it into 3 parts and shape each piece into a loop. Baste the loops to the end of the left strap, with the tops of the loops lying on the strap and the ends of the loops on the seam allowance. The size of the loop depends on the button's diameter.
  6. Stitch the center seam of the Front And Strap Facings, then attach the Back Facings to them. Press the seams open. Place the facing and the dress right sides together and stitch the upper back edges from the zipper, the armhole edges, the outer strap edges and the front neckline edges. Trim the seam allowances to 2–3 mm from the stitching, diagonally at the strap ends, and clip the neckline corners perpendicular to the seam, stopping 1 mm from the stitching. Turn the facing to the wrong side, baste and press.
  7. Stitch the side seams of the Front Skirt and Back Skirt in the main fabric and in organza. Place the organza underskirt and the main skirt wrong sides together, align the side seams and treat them as a single layer from now on. Stitch the center back seam from the hem up to the zipper mark. Lay and baste the pleats along the upper edge of the skirt. Stitch the skirt to the bodice. Press the seam towards the bodice and finish it.
  8. Fold up the Back Facing. Press the zipper opening allowances to the wrong side. Insert the zipper so that the teeth are not visible. Fold the facing to the wrong side and sew it to the zipper tape.
  9. Press the hem allowance to the wrong side, turn the raw edge in and topstitch. Trim the organza underskirt so that it is 1.5–2 cm shorter than the dress hem.
  10. Sew the buttons to the end of the right strap to correspond with the loops.
