Front: Two fronts with a centre front seam pressed open and bust darts pressed downwards.

Closure: Concealed zipper in the centre back seam.

Back: Two back pieces with a centre seam; open back, with the upper edge, armholes and strap edges bound in bias binding that shows a 1 mm piping of the main fabric.

Level Of Difficulty

Intermediate. Pleated cut-on halter straps, a concealed zipper and bias binding on curved edges.

Additional Supplies

  • Zipper

Fabric & Materials

Fabric recommendations: elastic, thin dress fabrics. You will need: Crepe de Chine with elastic fibers, 150 cm wide.

Cutter's Must

  • From main fabric:
  • Back – 2 pieces
  • Front – 2 pieces (cut in one with the halter strap)
  • Bias binding – 2 pieces (cut on the bias, not a pattern piece)

Sewing Instructions

  1. Stitch the darts on the fronts and the center front seam. Press the dart depths downwards, press the seam open.
  2. Stitch the center back seam up to the zipper marking, press the seam allowances open. Insert the zipper so that the teeth are not visible.
  3. Lay the pleats on the straps, then stitch the side seams and the center seam of the straps. Press the seam allowances open.
  4. Overlock the neckline and hem seam allowances, turn them to the wrong side and topstitch 0.7 cm from the edge.
  5. Press the bias binding in half, right side out. Align the raw edges of the binding with the edges of the back, armholes and straps (place the binding on the right side of the garment, leaving 1 cm ends at the zipper). Stitch the binding with a 1 cm seam. Trim the seam allowances to 0.4 cm. Turn the binding to the wrong side, forming a 1 mm piping of the main fabric, and topstitch 0.7 cm from the edge, first folding in the ends of the binding at the zipper.
