Tech. Description

Lace Insert Blouse

A women's knit blouse with lace front shoulder yokes and a lace centre back panel, a front button placket running to the hem, a narrow neckband open at the centre front and roll-up sleeves held by a buttoned tab.

When To Wear

  • At the office with trousers or a pencil skirt, sleeves rolled up or down.
  • In spring and autumn with jeans, or under a cardigan.

Key Design Features

Silhouette: Semi-fitted, slightly longer at the back.

Length: Below the hip, with a curved shirttail hem rising at the sides.

Collar: Narrow two-layer neckband, open at the centre front. One layer is interfaced; the band is stitched along its outer edge, turned and set into the neckline.

Front: Two fronts gathered into lace front yokes at the shoulders. Interfaced placket with buttonholes on the right front and buttons on the left.

Sleeves: Long set-in sleeves with a tab stitched to the wrong side; the sleeve rolls up and the tab buttons onto the outside.

Back: Back yoke in the main fabric over a lace centre back panel joined to two side back panels by vertical seams.

Finishing: 1.5 cm hem allowance on the body and sleeves, overlocked, turned and topstitched.

Level Of Difficulty

Intermediate. A two-layer front placket, a neckband started and stopped exactly at the seam line, gathering into yokes, combining lace with knit fabric, buttonholes and sleeve tabs.

Fabric Recommendations

Medium-stretch knit fabric in natural or blended fibres for the body; knit lace for the front yokes and the centre back panel.

Additional Supplies

  • Knit fusible interfacing (one neckband layer, two placket pieces)
  • 8 buttons

Cutter's Must

If the patterns have a double contour, they include seam allowances. If the contour is single, the patterns do not include seam allowances. Seam allowances: Hem allowance for the bottom of the garment and sleeve hem – 1.5 cm; other seams – 1 cm. Attention! First, print out the paper patterns and lay them out on the fabric width (fabric width can be from 90 cm to 150 cm) to determine how much material you will need (do not forget to account for paired and symmetrical details).

Sewing Instructions

When stitching pieces, pay attention to the notches - they must match! Try to observe the grain line direction.

  1. Fuse interfacing to one Neckline Facing and two Placket pieces.
  2. Place the two Neckline Facing pieces right sides together and stitch along the outer contour. Start and end the stitching strictly at the marked seam line for attachment. Clip curves in the seam allowances. Turn the finished facing right side out and press.
  3. Join the Side Back pieces to the Center Back, overlock the allowances and press towards the center. Attach the Back Yoke to the back. Overlock the allowance and press upwards.
  4. Run a line of long, loose stitches along the upper edge of each Front and gather. Attach the Front Yoke to the front, press allowances towards the yoke and overlock.
  5. Place the Placket pieces in pairs right sides together and stitch the outer edge. Turn the pieces right side out and press. Attach the outer placket to the front, press allowances towards the placket. Fold under the raw edge of the inner placket and topstitch into the attachment seam.
  6. Stitch side and shoulder seams, press allowances towards the back and overlock.
  7. Attach the upper layer of the neckline facing to the neckline, press allowances towards the facing. Fold under the raw edge of the lower layer and topstitch into the attachment seam of the upper facing.
  8. Fold the Sleeve Decorative Tabs in half lengthwise, right sides together, and stitch along the long and short edges. Turn right side out, trimming allowances at corners, straighten and press. Overlock the raw short edge. Topstitch the tabs to the wrong side of the sleeves according to markings.
  9. Stitch sleeve seams, press towards the back and overlock. Set sleeves into armholes, press allowances and overlock.
  10. Overlock the raw edge of the garment hem and sleeve hems, fold inwards and topstitch.
  11. On the right front, make buttonholes; on the left, sew on buttons. Make a buttonhole on each tab and sew a button onto each sleeve.
