Tech. Description

Wrap Front Peplum Jacket

Introducing a sophisticated women's sewing pattern for a sleeveless wrap-front peplum jacket, featuring elegant extended shoulders and a flattering fitted silhouette.

When To Wear

This versatile jacket is perfect for various occasions, offering both style and comfort:

  • Work & Office: The tailored look and wrap style make it a professional and chic choice for the workplace.
  • Smart Casual Gatherings: Easily dressed up or down, ideal for brunches, lunches, or informal social events.
  • Dinner & Evening Events: The elegant V-neckline and peplum detail are suitable for more refined evening wear.

Key Design Features

Silhouette: a fitted bodice that cinches at the waist, flaring into a soft peplum at the hip.

Neckline: a deep, flattering V-neckline created by the wrap-front construction, with soft released tucks at the shoulders for gentle drape.

Closure: Wrap-front fastening with two decorative buttons on the waist inset and an additional inner button for a secure fit.

Sleeves: Sleeveless, with extended shoulder lines that gently cover the shoulders.

Waist: a defined waist inset band joining the bodice and the peplum, enhancing the hourglass figure.

Back: a center back seam, released darts in the upper back, a waist inset band and a matching peplum.

Lining: Fully lined; the lining is cut from the main pattern pieces, and using the main fabric as lining is recommended.

Level Of Difficulty

Intermediate. Requires familiarity with darts and released tucks, bagged lining construction, and the precise assembly of a wrap-front garment and peplum.

Fabric Recommendations

For optimal drape and comfort, consider fabrics with a slight stretch that hold shape well:

  • Thin suiting fabrics with elastane
  • Natural or blended fibers

Additional Supplies

  • Fusible interfacing
  • Lining (main fabric recommended)
  • 2 decorative buttons (2 cm diameter)
  • 1 inner button

Cutter's Must

If the patterns have a double contour, they include seam allowances. If the contour is single, the patterns do not include seam allowances. Seam allowances: all seams 1 cm. Attention! First, print out the paper patterns and lay them out on the fabric width (fabric width can be from 90 cm to 150 cm) to determine how much material you will need (do not forget to account for paired and symmetrical pieces).

    • Upper Back – 2 pieces
    • Lower Back – 1 piece
    • Back Inset – 1 piece
    • Upper Front – 2 pieces
    • Lower Front – 2 pieces

Sewing Instructions

  1. Fuse interfacing to the Front Inset pieces.
  2. Stitch the darts on the Upper Back. Press the darts towards the center back. Stitch the center back seam. Press the seam open.
  3. Stitch the Back Inset to the Upper Back. Stitch the Lower Back to the Back Inset. Press the seams towards the inset.
  4. On the Upper Front, press the darts according to the markings, with the dart depth directed towards the side seam. Stitch the darts only up to the crosswise mark.
  5. Stitch the Front Inset to the Upper Front. Stitch the Lower Front to the Front Inset. Press the seams towards the inset.
  6. Stitch the shoulder and side seams of the back and front. Press the seams towards the back.
  7. Assemble the lining pieces in the same way as the main fabric pieces, leaving an opening in the left side seam for turning.
  8. Stitch the lining to the main garment along the neckline, front edges and hem. Clip the curves. Turn right side out and press. Stitch the armholes in 2 stages: first the upper part, then the lower part. Clip the curves. Turn right side out and press. Close the opening in the lining. Stitch through all layers along the inset seams (to the upper and lower parts) to hold the lining in place.
  9. Make a buttonhole on both fronts according to the markings. Sew a decorative button on the left front. On the right front, sew a decorative button on the right side and the inner button on the wrong side.
