Tech. Description

Color Block Cold Shoulder Top

Introducing a stylish women's top pattern featuring a unique asymmetrical color block design, a flattering V-neck, and modern split cold-shoulder sleeves.

When To Wear

This top is designed for versatile wear, offering modern comfort for various settings:

  • Casual Outings: Perfect for relaxed daytime wear, offering comfort and modern style.
  • Warm Weather Events: Its open shoulder design makes it ideal for spring and summer gatherings or vacation wear.
  • Contemporary Chic: Easily dressed up or down for a fashion-forward look suitable for various social occasions.

Key Design Features

Silhouette: a relaxed, straight-fit silhouette that drapes comfortably over the body, ending at hip length.

Neckline: a distinctive V-neckline finished with a band-like neckline facing; the right front overlaps the left along a diagonal seam, creating an asymmetrical color-block front.

Closure: Pull-on style with no opening. Three decorative buttons sit on the right front neckline facing, and one button on each sleeve joins the front and back sleeve parts.

Sleeves: Short split sleeves made of separate front and back parts with bias-bound edges, butted together and held by a button for a trendy cold-shoulder look. One sleeve is cut in the contrast fabric to continue the color block.

Back: a clean, plain back cut on the fold, with a neckline facing band.

Hem: a straight, simple hem finishes the garment.

Level Of Difficulty

Intermediate. Requires working with knit fabrics, precise assembly of asymmetrical panels and facings, and creating cold-shoulder details.

Fabric Recommendations

Choose knit fabrics that offer comfort and drape, suitable for the design's flexibility:

  • Soft knit fabrics with medium stretch made from natural or blended fibers
  • Fabrics in contrasting or related colors for the color block effect

Additional Supplies

  • Knitted fusible interfacing
  • 5 buttons

Cutter's Must

If the patterns have a double contour, the patterns include seam allowances. If the contour is single, the patterns do not include seam allowances. Seam allowances: all seams 1.0 cm; hem allowance - 2 cm. Attention! First of all, print out the paper patterns and lay them out on the fabric width (fabric width can be from 90 cm to 150 cm) to determine how much material you will need. When stitching pieces, pay attention to the notches - they must match!

  • From main fabric:
    • Back – 1 piece on fold
    • Left Front – 1 piece
    • Back Sleeve – 1 piece
    • Front Sleeve – 1 piece
    • Back Neckline Facing – 2 pieces
    • Right Front Neckline Facing – 2 pieces
    • Left Front Neckline Facing – 2 pieces
  • From main fabric 1 (contrast):
    • Right Front – 1 piece
    • Back Sleeve – 1 piece
    • Front Sleeve – 1 piece
  • From knit fusible interfacing:
    • Back Neckline Facing – 1 piece
    • Right Front Neckline Facing – 1 piece
    • Left Front Neckline Facing – 1 piece

Tip: Cut pieces from knit fabrics are stitched with a special elastic or narrow zigzag stitch. When serging, trim seam allowances to 0.8 cm. The hem allowance is topstitched with a twin needle or on a coverstitch machine to maintain elasticity. You can also stitch pieces directly on a 3- or 4-thread overlocker.
