Fitted Princess Seam Dress with Sleeves

Fabric & Materials

Fabric recommendations: dress fabrics made from natural or blended fibers. YOU WILL ALSO NEED: fusible interfacing; lining fabric; concealed zipper.

CUTTER'S MUST

IF THE PATTERNS HAVE A DOUBLE CONTOUR, SEAM ALLOWANCES ARE INCLUDED. IF THE CONTOUR IS SINGLE, THE PATTERNS ARE WITHOUT SEAM ALLOWANCES. SEAM ALLOWANCES: all seams 1 cm; hem allowance for the dress bottom — 1.5 cm. ATTENTION! FIRST, PRINT OUT THE PAPER PATTERNS AND LAY THEM OUT ON THE FABRIC WIDTH (fabric width can be from 90cm to 150cm) TO DETERMINE HOW MUCH MATERIAL YOU WILL NEED (do not forget to account for paired and symmetrical pieces). WHEN STITCHING PIECES, PAY ATTENTION TO THE NOTCHES - THEY MUST MATCH!

  • From main fabric:
    • Center back piece - 2 pieces
    • Side back piece – 2 pieces.
    • Center front piece - 2 pieces
    • Side front piece - 2 pieces
    • Back neckline facing — 2 pieces
    • Front neckline facing — 1 piece
    • Sleeve – 2 pieces
  • From lining fabric:
    • Pocket bag – 4 pieces
  • From fusible interfacing:
    • Back neckline facing — 2 pieces
    • Front neckline facing — 1 piece

Sewing Instructions

  1. Fuse interfacing to the designated pieces.
  2. Stitch the back princess seams, press allowances towards the center and overlock.
  3. Overlock the center back edges separately. Stitch the center back seam from the zipper mark to the bottom, press allowances open. Insert the concealed zipper.
  4. Place pocket bags onto the right side of the center and side front pieces and stitch, overlock allowances. Stitch the front princess seams, simultaneously stitching the pocket bags, press allowances towards the center and overlock. Stitch the center front seam, press allowances to the left side and overlock.
  5. Stitch the side and shoulder seams, press allowances towards the back and overlock.
  6. Stitch the shoulder seams of the back and front neckline facings, clip allowances at curves and press open. Overlock the outer edge.
  7. Place the facing onto the garment right sides together and stitch the neckline edge. Clip allowances, turn the facing to the wrong side, straighten, and press. Secure the facing to the garment at the shoulder seams and to the zipper tape.
  8. Stitch the dart on the sleeve cap, trim depth to 0.5-0.7 cm, press towards the back and overlock. Set in the sleeves into the armholes according to the notches, press allowances and overlock.
  9. Overlock the bottom edge of the garment and sleeves, press to the wrong side and topstitch.
