Tech. Description

Ruffled Sleeve Gathered Yoke Blouse

A hip-length women's blouse with front and back yokes, the body gathered into the yokes at the centre, and short cut-on sleeves finished with gathered folded cuffs that form a ruffle. The round neckline is bound with bias binding.

When To Wear

  • In summer with shorts, jeans or a skirt.
  • Worn loose over trousers for warm working days.

Key Design Features

Silhouette: Loose and straight, with fullness gathered below the yokes.

Length: Hip length, straight hem.

Neckline: Round, finished with a 4 cm bias binding folded in half and topstitched along the fold on the inside.

Sleeves: Short, cut in one with the yokes and body and closed together with the side seams; the cuff is sewn into a ring, folded in half, gathered along the open edge and stitched to the sleeve as a ruffle.

Front: Front yoke cut on the fold; the front, also cut on the fold, is gathered between marks with the gathers placed towards the centre.

Back: Back yoke and back, each cut on the fold, with the same gathering as the front.

Finishing: Seams serged and pressed up to the yokes and towards the back; hem serged, pressed under and topstitched. Grainline direction must be followed when cutting.

Level Of Difficulty

Beginner. Five pieces, gathering, straight yoke seams and a bias-bound neckline.

Fabric Recommendations

Blouse fabrics made from natural or blended fibres; a striped fabric is recommended.

Additional Supplies

  • Bias binding 4 cm wide for the neckline (ready-made or cut from the main fabric)

Cutter's Must

If the patterns have a double contour, seam allowances are included. If the contour is single, the patterns are without seam allowances. Seam allowances: all seams 1 cm; hem allowance – 2.0 cm. Attention! First, print out the paper patterns and lay them out on the fabric width (fabric width can be from 90cm to 150cm) to determine how much material you will need (don't forget to account for paired and symmetrical pieces). When stitching pieces, pay attention to the notches - they must match! Attention! When cutting, pay attention to the grainline direction.

  • From main fabric:
    • Back - 1 piece on fold
    • Front - 1 piece on fold
    • Front Yoke - 1 piece on fold
    • Back Yoke - 1 piece on fold
    • Cuff - 2 pieces

Sewing Instructions
