Tech. Description

Hooded Sleeveless Top

A women's hip-length sleeveless top with a hood cut in one with the front, a deep V-neck, bust darts and a full lining cut from the main fabric.

When To Wear

  • In summer, with jeans, shorts or a straight skirt.
  • Layered over a fine long-sleeved top in spring.

Key Design Features

Silhouette: Close fit, shaped by bust darts on the front; straight hem at hip level.

Neckline: Deep V-neck running into the hood, edges finished by the lining.

Collar: Hood cut in one with the front, with a centre hood seam, set into the back neckline.

Sleeves: Sleeveless; armholes finished by the lining, stitched in two steps (front, then back).

Front: One piece cut on the fold, with bust darts pressed upwards.

Back: One piece cut on the fold, no centre back seam.

Finishing: Hems of the top and lining serged, turned up 2 cm and topstitched.

Lining: Front and back lining cut from the main fabric and assembled like the top, so the inside of the hood is self-fabric.

Level Of Difficulty

Intermediate. Clipping into the corner where the hood meets the back neck, and bagging out a full lining with the armholes turned in two steps.

Fabric Recommendations

Blouse fabrics of natural or blended fibres.

Additional Supplies

  • None besides fabric and thread; there is no closure

Cutter's Must

If the patterns have a double contour, seam allowances are included. If the contour is single, seam allowances are not included. Seam allowances: all seams 1 cm. Hem allowances for top and lining – 2 cm. Attention! First, print out the paper patterns and lay them out on the fabric width (fabric width can be from 90cm to 150cm) to determine how much material you will need (do not forget to account for paired and symmetrical pieces). When stitching pieces, pay attention to the notches - they must match!

  • From main fabric:
    • Back – 1 piece (cut on fold)
    • Front – 1 piece (cut on fold)
    • Back Lining – 1 piece (cut on fold)
    • Front Lining – 1 piece (cut on fold)

Sewing Instructions

  1. Stitch the darts on the Front. Press the darts upwards.
  2. Stitch the center seam of the hood (cut in one with the Front). Press the seam allowance open.
  3. Clip the Front seam allowance at the corner. Stitch the hood into the Back neckline. Press seam allowance open.
  4. Stitch shoulder and side seams. Press seam allowances open.
  5. Assemble the Front Lining and Back Lining in the same way. Place the outer top and the lining right sides together and stitch around the front neckline and the hood edge. Turn the piece right side out and press.
  6. Stitch the outer and lining armholes together in two steps – first the front armhole, then the back armhole. Clip seam allowances and press.
  7. Tack the outer and lining seam allowances together at the back neckline.
  8. Overlock the hem allowances, press to the wrong side and topstitch.
