Tech. Description

Shearling Jacket Asymmetrical Fur Collar

A hip-length women's sheepskin jacket with an asymmetric wrap front, a fur shawl collar, a front yoke and princess-line panels, fastened with two buckled straps. Two-piece sleeves end in cuffs worn fur side out.

When To Wear

  • In autumn and winter over knitwear, with jeans or slim trousers.
  • Over dresses and skirts with boots in cold weather.

Key Design Features

Silhouette: Fitted, shaped by princess seams front and back.

Length: Hip length; the overlapping front edge curves into the hem.

Collar: Shawl collar cut from fur, attached along the neckline and the overlapping front edge down to the fastening.

Front: Asymmetric wrap front: a yoke joined to the centre lower front, and a side front panel joined with a lapped seam. Two buckled straps fasten the overlap.

Sleeves: Two-piece set-in sleeves, the front seam lapped; cuffs attached with a closed seam so the fur side shows.

Back: Centre back seam, topstitched on both sides, and lapped princess seams.

Finishing: Lapped seams and open seams with both allowances topstitched, as used for sheepskin. Front edges, hem and cuff edges are stitched 0.1–0.2 cm from the edge, with a second row of topstitching 2 cm from the edge along the front edges and hem. No lining.

Level Of Difficulty

Advanced. Sewing sheepskin with lapped and topstitched open seams, joining fur cuffs with closed seams and setting a fur collar into an asymmetric wrap front.

Fabric Recommendations

Sheepskin (shearling) for the jacket and cuffs; fur for the collar.
