Tech. Description

Long Sleeve Cowl Neckline Cut-out Blouse

A fitted, hip-length women's top in stretch knit with long set-in sleeves and a round neckline that drops into soft cowl folds at the centre front. The bound neckline ends at the front, where the binding tails pass through a 7 cm decorative holder.

When To Wear

  • In autumn and winter with trousers or a skirt.
  • Under an open jacket, where the cowl and the holder stay visible.

Key Design Features

Silhouette: Close-fitting with shaped side seams.

Neckline: Round neckline bound with knit tape or bias binding, cut with no seam allowance. Between two notches at the centre front the edge is turned to the wrong side and topstitched instead of bound, and falls in cowl folds. The binding starts and ends at the front neckline with 5 cm tails; the tails go through the holder and are secured on the wrong side of the front.

Sleeves: Long, set-in, with one underarm seam.

Front: One piece, no seams or darts.

Back: One piece, no centre seam.

Finishing: Shoulder and side seams pressed towards the back. Hems of body and sleeves turned up and topstitched with a twin needle.

Level Of Difficulty

Beginner. Three pieces and set-in sleeves; the only detailed step is binding the neckline in stretch fabric and threading the tails through the holder.

Fabric Recommendations

Knit fabric with medium to high stretch, from natural or blended fibres. Seams are sewn with a stretch or narrow zigzag stitch.

Additional Supplies

  • Decorative neckline holder, 7 cm long
  • Knit tape or bias binding for the neckline

Cutting Plan

  • From main fabric:
  • 1. Back – 1 piece
  • 2. Front – 1 piece
  • 3. Sleeve – 2 pieces

Sewing Instructions

  1. Stitch shoulder and side seams of the back and front. Serge seams and press towards the back.
  2. Stitch sleeve seams. Serge seams and press.
  3. Set sleeves into armholes, matching notches. Serge seams and press.
  4. Serge the bottom edge of the garment, the bottom edge of the sleeve, and the draped neckline edge (between the notches on the front neckline). Fold to the wrong side, press, and topstitch.
  5. Bind the neckline edge of the back and front. Start and end the binding at the front neckline, leaving 5cm ends. Thread the ends of the binding tape through a loop and secure them on the wrong side of the front.
