Square Neck Tie-Side Wrap Top

Pattern #5676
Tech. Description

Fabric & Materials

Pattern pieces made from knit fabrics should be sewn with a special elastic or narrow zigzag stitch. When serging, trim seam allowances to 0.6 – 0.8 cm. Hem allowance is topstitched with a twin needle to maintain elasticity.

Cutting Plan

From main fabric:

  • 1. Back – 1 piece
  • 2. Front Bodice – 1 piece
  • 3. Front Bodice Overlay – 1 piece
  • 4. Back Armhole Facing – 4 pieces
  • 5. Front Armhole Facing – 4 pieces

Sewing Instructions

  1. Fold back armhole facings right sides together and stitch along the armhole edge.
  2. Fold front armhole facings right sides together and stitch along the armhole edge.
  3. Unfold the facings, then fold them along the shoulder edge wrong sides together. Stitch the facings along the shoulder seam. Press the seam towards the back.
  4. Finish the upper edge of the back and front bodice, as well as 3 open edges of the front bodice overlay. Fold allowances to the wrong side, press and topstitch. Topstitch the upper edge of the front bodice overlay last, first placing a tie underneath it.
  5. Gather along the armhole edge on the front bodice overlay.
  6. Attach the front bodice overlay to the front bodice along the armhole.
  7. Stitch the outer facing to the armhole of the back and front bodice.
  8. Attach the front bodice overlay to the front bodice along the right side seam. Note: the side seam of the front overlay does not reach the bottom edge of the front bodice by 1.5 cm (hem allowance). Stitch the side seams, inserting a tie into the left seam. Finish the seams and press towards the back.
  9. Turn the facing allowances inwards and stitch them together.
  10. Finish the bottom edge of the garment. Fold to the wrong side, press and topstitch.
