Tech. Description

Halter Keyhole Blouson with Side Tie

A women's sleeveless halter top in blouson style: the body is lightly gathered into an interfaced waistband whose long tie ends pass through a slit in the left side seam and knot at the side. A teardrop keyhole at the front neck closes with a bias-binding loop and one button.

When To Wear

  • Warm summer days and evenings, with trousers, shorts or a straight skirt.
  • On holiday, or under an open jacket in spring.

Key Design Features

Silhouette: Loose blouson body held in by the waistband.

Length: Ends at the waistband just above the hip.

Neckline: High halter neckline bound with bias binding on the front and back, with a teardrop keyhole cut at the centre front and bound in the same way.

Closure: At the front neck: the neckline binding forms a loop on the right side, fastened to one button on the left.

Sleeves: Sleeveless, with cut-in halter armholes. The armholes are bound with bias binding, which continues as the strap; its length is adjusted at the fitting.

Front: One piece with a bust dart from each armhole, pressed upwards.

Back: One piece, no centre back seam.

Waist: The lower edge is gathered slightly and sewn into a folded, interfaced waistband cut on the fold. The band extends into tie ends; one of them passes through a slit left in the left side seam.

Level Of Difficulty

Intermediate. Bias binding on curved edges and a keyhole, a binding loop, straps formed from the binding, gathers and a waistband with tie ends passed through a side seam slit.

Fabric Recommendations

Fabric of natural or blended fibres.

Sewing Instructions

  1. Fuse the waistband with fusible interfacing.
  2. On the front, mark and cut out the keyhole.
  3. Press the bias binding in half lengthwise and finish the edge of the keyhole.
  4. Finish the neckline of the back and front with bias binding, forming a loop on the right side of the front.
  5. Stitch the dart on the front. Press the dart upwards.
  6. Finish the armhole edges with bias binding, forming a strap from the bias binding. Adjust the strap length during fitting.
  7. Stitch the left side seam, leaving a slit in the seam for the waistband. Overlock the seam and press it open, pressing the slits.
  8. Stitch the right side seam. Overlock and press the right side seam towards the back.
  9. Fold the waistband right sides together and stitch from the notch along the tie ends and then along the lower edge. Turn right side out and press.
  10. Sew a line of stitching with loose tension 0.5 cm from the edge along the bottom edge of the top. Gather slightly.
  11. Stitch the outer layer of the waistband to the top. Press the seam towards the waistband. Press the open edge of the waistband down and topstitch into the seam.
  12. Sew a button on the left side of the front.
