Tech. Description

Gathered Drawstring Bell Sleeve Blouse

A women's hip-length blouse with a gathered upper front and back joined to a smooth lower part under the bust, a wide drawstring neckline tied at the centre front, and long sleeves with a gathered puff between two lace bands and a pointed flounce at the hem.

When To Wear

  • In summer with jeans, shorts or a long skirt.
  • On holiday and for outdoor festivals and garden parties.

Key Design Features

Silhouette: Empire line: gathered upper front and upper back joined under the bust to lower front and lower back pieces that flare slightly to the hem. Lace trim is stitched along the joining seam.

Length: Hip length, hem turned under and topstitched.

Neckline: Wide neckline worn low on the shoulders. Joined facings of the front, back and sleeve tops are topstitched to form a casing, and a cord is threaded through it; the upper front has a centre seam stitched up to a notch, leaving a short opening where the cord ties.

Sleeves: Long sleeves that reach the neckline, their upper edge forming part of the casing. Each sleeve has a lace band, a gathered sleeve inset, a second lace band and a triangular flounce with its own seam, ending in points.

Back: Gathered upper back in one piece, lower back in one piece, with no centre back seam.

Finishing: Facings overlocked; flounce lower edges overlocked, turned under and topstitched.

Level Of Difficulty

Intermediate. Gathering, inserting lace trim into seams, sleeves assembled from several parts and a drawstring casing made from joined facings.
