Tech. Description

Collared V-Neck Tunic

A women's straight hip-length pull-on tunic with a collar, a deep front opening that forms a V-neck, a centre front seam and side slits. The collar, front opening, side slits and hem are topstitched with a twin needle.

When To Wear

  • With straight trousers or jeans for everyday wear and the office.
  • Over leggings or slim trousers in spring and autumn.

Key Design Features

Silhouette: Straight, loose through the body.

Length: Hip length, covering the hips.

Collar: Two-piece collar stitched along the outer edge and turned; the under collar is sewn into the tunic neckline and the upper collar into the facings in one line of stitching.

Front: Two front pieces with cut-on facings and a centre front seam sewn from the slit mark down to the hem; above the mark the front stays open as a V-neck with no fastenings.

Sleeves: Long, one-piece set-in sleeves with eased caps; hems topstitched with a twin needle.

Back: One piece cut on the fold, with a back neckline facing joined to the front facings.

Finishing: Side slits at the hem with mitred corners; the collar edge and the front opening are twin-needle topstitched in one continuous line, and the side slits and hem in another, at the same distance from the edge.

Level Of Difficulty

Intermediate. A collar set between the garment and the facings, cut-on front facings, mitred slit corners and continuous twin-needle topstitching.

Fabric Recommendations

Soft to medium-weight fabrics with some drape: viscose, crepe, fine wool, linen or dense jersey.

Sewing Instructions

  1. Sew the side seams, leaving the slits open at the bottom.
  2. Sew the shoulder seams.
  3. Stitch the two collar pieces together along the outer edge. Trim the seam allowances close to the stitching, and diagonally at the corners. Turn the collar right side out.
  4. Sew the back neckline facing to the front facings, matching the notch.
  5. Sew the under collar into the tunic neckline and, continuing the same line of stitching, sew the upper collar into the neckline of the front facings and back neckline facing. Trim the seam allowances close to the stitching and press open.
  6. Turn the front facings and back neckline facing to the wrong side and tack them to the shoulder seam allowances.
  7. Sew the center front seam from the slit mark down to the lower edge of the front. Press the seam allowances open.
  8. Topstitch the collar along the edge with a twin needle and, continuing the same line of stitching, topstitch along the edges of the front slit.
  9. Turn the hem allowance and the side slit allowances to the wrong side, mitring the corners.
  10. Topstitch along the edges of the side slits following the markings and, continuing the same line of stitching, along the hem at the same distance.
  11. Sew the sleeve seams. Turn the hem allowance of each sleeve to the wrong side and topstitch with a twin needle.
