Cuffed Sleeve Blouse with Asymmetrical Pleats

A women's hip-length blouse with a wide double-layer neckband, two pleats laid at the front neckline in opposite directions, and short set-in sleeves with folded cuffs.

When To Wear

In warm weather, worn over trousers or a pencil skirt.
At the office on its own or under a jacket; the band neckline sits flat under a lapel.

Key Design Features

Silhouette: Straight, slightly widening towards the hem, fitted at the shoulders.

Length: Hip length.

Neckline: Round, finished with a wide band made of an outer and an inner layer (front facing and back facing, two of each). The layers are stitched together along the neck edge, the outer layer is sewn to the blouse neckline and the inner layer is stitched in the ditch of that seam.

Front: One piece with two pleats laid into the neckband seam from one point near the centre: the left pleat turned away from the centre, the right pleat turned towards the shoulder, so the folds fan out at different angles.

Sleeves: Short, set-in, one-piece sleeves with a straight cuff. Each cuff is sewn into a ring, folded in half lengthwise and attached with the inner half stitched in the ditch.

Back: One piece cut on the fold, with no centre back seam.

Finishing: Side, shoulder and sleeve seams overlocked; hem overlocked, turned up and topstitched.

Cutter's Must

If the patterns have a double contour, they include seam allowances. If the contour is single, the patterns do not include seam allowances. Seam allowances: Hem allowance – 1.5 cm. Other seams – 1.0 cm. Attention! First, print out the paper patterns and lay them out on the fabric width (fabric width can be from 90 cm to 150 cm) to determine how much material you will need (do not forget to account for paired and symmetrical pieces).

From fusible interfacing:
- Back Facing – 1 piece

Sewing Instructions

When stitching pieces, pay attention to the notches - they must match! Attention! Markings on the patterns are on the right side!

Fuse interfacing to one Back Facing, one Front Facing and the Cuffs.
Fold and baste the left pleat at the front neckline edge (pleat fold directed away from the center). Fold and baste the right pleat at the front neckline edge (pleat fold directed towards the shoulder).
Stitch side and shoulder seams, press allowances towards the back and overlock.
Stitch the shoulder seams of the outer and inner neckbands (Front Facing + Back Facings), press allowances open. Place the outer and inner neckbands right sides together and stitch the neckline edge. Clip allowances at curves, turn right side out and press. Stitch the outer neckband to the neckline edge, press allowances towards the neckband. Press the lower edge of the inner neckband to the wrong side and stitch it in the ditch of the attaching seam.
Stitch sleeve seams, press allowances towards the back and overlock. Set sleeves into armholes, press allowances and overlock.
Stitch each Cuff into a ring, press allowances open. Fold the Cuff lengthwise in half and press. Stitch the outer half of the Cuff to the sleeve, turn under the allowance of the inner half and stitch it in the ditch of the attaching seam.
Overlock the lower edge of the garment, press to the wrong side and topstitch.
