Asymmetrical Ruffle Sleeveless Top

Pattern #4123
Tech. Description

Asymmetrical Ruffle Sleeveless Top

Introducing a chic women's sewing pattern for a sleeveless top featuring an artfully draped asymmetrical ruffle detail and a comfortable, relaxed fit.

When To Wear

This versatile top is perfect for adding a touch of elegance to various occasions, making it ideal for:

  • Casual-Smart Outings: Pair with trousers or skirts for elevated daytime wear.
  • Vacation & Resort Style: Lightweight and fashionable for seaside retreats or warm-weather travel.
  • Evening & Dinner Dates: Dress up with accessories for a sophisticated yet comfortable look.

Key Design Features

Silhouette: a comfortable, relaxed-fit sleeveless top with a clean, straight hem.

Neckline: Features a gently rounded boat neckline for a soft, flattering frame.

Details: An asymmetrical ruffle elegantly sweeps diagonally across the front bodice, originating from the wearer's right shoulder where it forms a decorative tie detail.

Hem: Finished with a straight hemline for a polished, versatile look.

Length: Designed to fall at a hip-length, suitable for tucking in or wearing untucked.

Level Of Difficulty

Intermediate. Requires accurate ruffle gathering, precise asymmetrical panel assembly, and clean finishing of necklines and armholes, especially when working with knit fabrics.

Fabric Recommendations

Choose soft, well-draping fabrics with some stretch to best achieve the top's silhouette and ruffle detail:

  • Soft, well-draping double-sided knit fabric with medium or low stretch (natural or blended fibers)
  • Soft, well-draping double-sided dress fabrics with added elastane

Additional Supplies

No additional notions are required.

Cutter's Must

If the patterns have a double contour, seam allowances are included. If the contour is single, the patterns do not include seam allowances. Seam allowances: hem allowance – 1.5 cm, armhole and back/front neckline allowances – 1.0 cm, outer flounce edge, short flounce edge and inner flounce edge up to the mark – 0 cm, other allowances - 0.7 cm. Attention! First, print out the paper patterns and lay them out on the fabric width (fabric width can be from 90 cm to 150 cm) to determine how much material you will need.

  • From main fabric:
    • Right back – 1 piece
    • Left back – 1 piece
    • Left front – 1 piece
    • Right front – 1 piece
    • Flounce – 2 pieces

Tip: Knit fabric pieces are stitched with a special elastic or narrow zigzag stitch. The hem allowance is topstitched with a twin needle or on a coverstitch machine to maintain elasticity. You can also stitch pieces directly on a 3- or 4-thread overlock machine.

Sewing Instructions

When stitching pieces, pay attention to the notches - they must match!

  1. Overlock the outer edge, short edge, and inner edge up to the mark on the flounce with a thin rolled hem stitch.
  2. Stitch the right shoulder seam, overlock, and press towards the back. Overlock the neckline edge, press to the wrong side, and topstitch.
  3. On the right front, along the princess seam from the top to mark “O”, create and secure even pleats. Stitch the front princess seam, inserting the flounce between the pieces from the lower mark to the upper edge (the left front is longer than the right by the amount of the shoulder seam allowance).
  4. Stitch the back princess seam, inserting the flounce between the pieces from the lower mark to the upper edge (the left back is longer than the right by the amount of the shoulder seam allowance).
  5. Stitch and overlock the left shoulder seam. Stitch the side seams, press allowances towards the back, and overlock.
  6. Overlock the bottom edge of the garment and the armhole edges. Fold to the wrong side, press, and topstitch.
  7. Tie the free ends of the flounces into a bow or secure them to the shoulder seam.
