Fitted Velvet Dress With Chiffon Sleeves

Fabric & Materials

Fabric recommendations: stretch velvet made of natural or blended fibers, chiffon. Also needed: elastic thread; fusible interfacing.

CUTTER'S MUST

If the patterns have a double contour, they include SEAM ALLOWANCES. If the contour is single, the patterns do not include SEAM ALLOWANCES. SEAM ALLOWANCES: hem allowance – 2 cm, neckline allowance for front and back – 1.5 cm. All other seams 1 cm. ATTENTION! First, print out the paper patterns and lay them out on the fabric width (fabric width can be from 90 cm to 150 cm) to determine how much material you will need. When stitching pieces, pay attention to the NOTCHES - they must match!

• From velvet:
  • Center back – 2 pieces
  • Side back - 2 pieces
  • Center front – 1 piece on fold
  • Side front – 2 pieces
• From chiffon:
  • Sleeve – 4 pieces

Sewing Instructions

Tip: Cut pieces from knit fabrics are stitched with a special elastic or narrow zigzag stitch. The hem allowance is stitched with a twin needle or on a coverstitch machine to maintain elasticity. You can also stitch pieces directly on a 3- or 4-thread overlocker.

1. Stitch the princess seams of the back and front, overcast the allowances and press them towards the center back and front respectively.
2. Stitch the center back seam. Press the allowance to the left side and overcast. Stitch the side seams, press the allowances towards the back and overcast.
3. Cut a strip of fusible interfacing equal to the length of the front and back edges and 1 cm wide. Fuse the allowances of the front and back edges of the sleeve (duplicate the edges of the upper and lower sleeves). Fold the sleeves in pairs right sides together and stitch along the upper and lower edges. On the wrong side, sew rows with elastic thread along the upper and lower seams.
4. Overcast the front and back necklines. Set in the sleeves, matching the marks. Overcast the allowances. Fold up the lower armhole allowance and stitch. Fold up the neckline allowance of the front and back and stitch.
5. Overcast the bottom edge of the dress. Fold to the wrong side, press and stitch.
