Tunic with Ruched Waistband

Pattern #4051
Tech. Description

Fabric & Materials

Fabric recommendations: Knit fabric with medium or low stretch, good drape, made from natural or blended fibers. Also needed: Knit tape (or bias binding) 4 cm wide for edging (tape length is indicated on the front pattern piece), elastic thread.

CUTTER'S MUST

If the patterns have a double contour, they include SEAM ALLOWANCES. If the contour is single, the patterns do not include SEAM ALLOWANCES. SEAM ALLOWANCES: Allowance for the upper edge of the sleeve and the front neckline – 0 cm, for the bias edges of the back and the lower edge of the sleeve — 1.5 cm, other seams 0.7 cm. ATTENTION! First, print out the paper patterns and lay them out on the fabric width (fabric width can be from 90 cm to 150 cm) to determine how much material you will need.

  • From main fabric:
    • Back – 2 pieces
    • Front – 1 piece on fold
    • Bottom band – 2 pieces
    • Sleeve — 2 pieces

Tip: Cut pieces from knit fabrics are stitched with a special elastic or narrow zigzag stitch. You can also stitch pieces directly on a 3- or 4-thread overlock machine.

Sewing Instructions

When stitching pieces, pay attention to the NOTCHES - they must match!

  1. Attach sleeves to the front. Overcast and press the seam.
  2. Along the front neckline edge and the upper sleeve edges, stitch with loosely tensioned stitches and gather. The gathering amount is indicated on the patterns. Edge the neckline with bias binding.
  3. Attach sleeves to the back, aligning edges from the bottom of the armhole. The back armhole is 1.5 cm longer than the sleeve cap. Overcast seams and press towards the back. Overcast the allowance on the bias edge of the back, fold under, curving around the armhole, and topstitch.
  4. Stitch the side edges of the back and front, simultaneously stitching the sleeve seam. Overcast seams and press towards the back.
  5. Fold the bottom band pieces right sides together and stitch into a loop along the short sides. Fold the band in half lengthwise, right side out, and press. Along the side edges of the band, stitch with elastic thread.
  6. Overlap the back pieces and secure them together. Along the lower edge of the back and front, stitch with loosely tensioned stitches and gather. Equalize the length of the lower edge of the back and front with the band edge. Attach the band, overcast seams and press upwards. Remove gathering.
  7. Overcast the lower edge of the sleeve, fold under and topstitch.
  8. Form 2 ties from bias binding, 65-75 cm long. Sew ties to the sleeve at the shoulder point.
