Two-Tone Barrel Shoulder Bag

Pattern #3012
Tech. Description

Fabric & Materials

Fabric recommendations: dense fabrics made of natural or blended fibers, artificial or genuine leather. Also needed: fusible interlining; lining fabric; zipper; zipper for the inner pocket.

CUTTER'S MUST

If the patterns have a double contour, they include SEAM ALLOWANCES; if the contour is single, the patterns do not include SEAM ALLOWANCES. SEAM ALLOWANCES: all seams 1 cm. Side part and side pocket 0.5 cm. Side edges of the main part 0.5 cm. ATTENTION! First, print out the paper patterns and lay them out on the fabric width (fabric width can be from 90 cm to 150 cm) to determine how much material you will need (do not forget to account for paired and symmetrical pieces). When stitching pieces, pay attention to the NOTCHES - they must match!

Sewing Instructions

  1. Fuse the main and side parts, side pocket, finishing piece, and strap with fusible interlining.
  2. Cut 2 zipper flaps, 4 cm long and 3 cm wide. Fold in half along the short side and press.
  3. Overcast the short edges of the finishing piece, press to the wrong side, and topstitch. Place the finishing piece on the main part and topstitch along the two long sides at 0.5 cm from the edge. (If you stitch across the finishing piece, you will get 2 more pockets).
  4. Mark the pocket placement on the main lining piece. Fuse the area under the zipper. Cut an opening along the pocket entrance; at 1 – 1.5 cm from the end of the pocket, make diagonal cuts. Fold the seam allowances inwards. Place the zipper under the edges of the pocket opening so that the teeth are visible. Topstitch the pocket opening close to the edge at 0.2 cm. Attach the large pocket lining to the upper zipper tape, and the small lining to the lower tape. Stitch the lining edges.
  5. From the right side, place the flap on the zipper. Fold the main part and the main lining part right sides together. Insert the zipper between them. Align the edges. Stitch the pieces along the zipper teeth, starting the stitch 1 cm from the edges and stopping 1 cm before the end. Turn the pieces to the right side.
  6. Fold the side pocket in half right side out and topstitch it onto the side part of the bag at 0.5 cm from the edge.
  7. Cut the strap (recommended length is indicated on the main part pattern). Fold the strap in half lengthwise, right sides together, and stitch along the long edge. Turn the strap right side out and press. Topstitch at 0.2 cm from the edge. Place the strap on the finishing piece of the bag, covering its raw edges. Topstitch the strap to the bag with two parallel stitches. They should end at the level of the upper edge of the finishing piece.
  8. Fold the main and side parts wrong sides together. Attach the side part to the bag with an overlock stitch, strictly observing the markings.
  9. Attach the side lining part to the bag lining, leaving an opening for turning. Turn the bag through the opening. Stitch the opening closed.
