Fabric & Materials

Fabric recommendations: dense fabrics made of natural or blended fibers (corduroy, suiting fabric). Also needed: fusible interfacing; lining fabric; zipper; 2 zippers for internal pockets, decorative buckle.

CUTTER'S MUST

Seam allowances for the upper edge of the divider pocket 2 cm. ATTENTION! First, print out the paper patterns and lay them out on the fabric width (fabric width can be from 90cm to 150cm) to determine how much material you will need (do not forget to account for paired and symmetrical pieces).

Sewing Instructions

When stitching pieces, pay attention to the notches - they must match!

  1. Interface the front, side parts, and strap with fusible interfacing.
  2. Fold the strap pieces right sides together and stitch along the two long edges. Turn the strap right side out and press. Topstitch 0.2 cm from the edge.
  3. Stitch the straight edges on the side parts of the bag.
  4. Mark the pocket placement on the lining. Cut an opening along the pocket entrance, make diagonal cuts 1 – 1.5 cm from the end of the pocket. Fold the seam allowances inwards. Place the zipper under the edges of the pocket entrance so that the teeth are visible. Topstitch the pocket entrance close to the edge at 0.2 cm. Attach the large pocket lining to the upper zipper tape, the small one to the lower zipper tape. Stitch the lining edges.
  5. Cut out zipper flaps from the lining, 4 cm long and 2 cm wide. Fold the seam allowance of the upper cut of the divider pocket to the wrong side, turn inwards and topstitch. Fold the flaps in half crosswise and place them on the zipper from both sides. Place the divider pocket pieces on the zipper so that the lining does not cover the zipper teeth and topstitch.
  6. Fold the seam allowance of the wider end of the strap and topstitch it to the bag. Fold the seam allowances of the strap tab along the long sides and topstitch. Thread the tab through the buckle, fold it crosswise, overlapping the upper side by two seam allowance widths. Fold the lower seam allowance of the upper side and topstitch it to the bag.
  7. Thread the free end of the strap through the buckle, fold the seam allowance and topstitch.
  8. Fold the front part of the bag with the lining piece. Insert the zipper between the upper edges and stitch. Turn the bag right side out. Topstitch along the zipper.
  9. Attach the side part of the bag to the front part.
  10. Stitch the straight edges on the side parts of the lining, inserting the divider pocket. Attach the side lining to the front lining, leaving an opening for subsequent turning. On the side sections, the lining is stitched in two steps. First, stopping 1.5 – 2 cm before the zipper. Then this section is stitched, catching the upper material in the seam.
  11. Turn the bag through the opening. Stitch the opening closed.
