Draped Asymmetric Short Sleeve Knit Top

Pattern #2830
Tech. Description

Fabric & Materials

Fabric recommendations: soft knit fabric with medium stretch from natural or blended fibers.

CUTTER'S MUST

IF THE PATTERNS HAVE A DOUBLE CONTOUR, SEAM ALLOWANCES ARE INCLUDED. IF THE CONTOUR IS SINGLE, THE PATTERNS ARE WITHOUT SEAM ALLOWANCES. SEAM ALLOWANCES: all seams - 1.0 cm; hem allowance for the garment bottom and sleeve - 2 cm. ATTENTION! FIRST OF ALL, PRINT OUT THE PAPER PATTERNS AND LAY THEM OUT ON THE FABRIC WIDTH (fabric width can be from 90 cm to 150 cm) TO DETERMINE HOW MUCH MATERIAL YOU WILL NEED. WHEN STITCHING PIECES, PAY ATTENTION TO THE NOTCHES - THEY MUST MATCH!

  • From main fabric:
    • Back – 1 piece on fold
    • Front – 1 piece
    • Sleeve – 2 pieces
    • Front insert – 2 pieces

Tip: Knit fabric pieces are stitched with a special elastic or narrow zigzag stitch. When serging, trim seam allowances to 0.8 cm. The hem allowance is topstitched with a twin needle or on a coverstitch machine to maintain elasticity. You can also stitch pieces directly on a 3- or 4-thread overlock machine.

Sewing Instructions

  1. Serge the neckline edge of the front, press to the wrong side and topstitch. Fold and secure the pleats (depths directed downwards).
  2. Fold the front insert pieces right sides together, place the front piece between them and stitch the shaped edge. Turn the insert right side out, straighten, and secure the open edges together.
  3. Cut (if not ready-made) a bias binding 4 cm wide, equal to the length of the back neckline + 4 cm. Fold the bias binding in half lengthwise, right side out, and press. Place the binding with the back neckline edge right sides together and stitch, fold the binding to the wrong side and topstitch along the fold to the main piece.
  4. Stitch the shoulder and side seams, press allowances towards the back and serge.
  5. Stitch the sleeve seam, press allowances towards the back and serge. Set in the sleeves into the armholes, matching notches, press allowances and serge.
  6. Serge the hem allowance of the bottom and sleeve hem, fold to the wrong side and topstitch.
