Tech. Description

Contrast Shoulder Flounce T-Shirt

A women's T-shirt for knit fabric with short set-in sleeves, folded contrast cuffs and a folded contrast flounce caught into the top of each armhole seam. Round neckline finished with a folded neckband.

When To Wear

  • In summer with jeans, shorts or a skirt.
  • In spring and autumn under a jacket or cardigan.

Key Design Features

Silhouette: Straight, hip length.

Neckline: Round, finished with a band joined into a ring, folded in half lengthwise and stitched in while slightly stretched.

Sleeves: Short, set-in, with a cuff joined into a ring and folded in half lengthwise. A flounce, folded in half lengthwise, is inserted into the armhole seam over the shoulder and stands out over the sleeve head.

Front: One piece, with no darts or seams.

Back: One piece, with no centre back seam.

Finishing: Hem turned 1.5 cm to the wrong side and topstitched; a twin needle or coverstitch keeps it stretchy.

Level Of Difficulty

Beginner. Six pattern pieces, a folded neckband and cuffs, and a flounce inserted while setting in the sleeves. Can be sewn on an overlocker.

Fabric Recommendations

Medium-stretch knit of natural or blended fibres in two contrasting colours: one for the body, sleeves and neckband, the other for the cuffs and flounces.

Additional Supplies

  • Contrast knit fabric for the cuffs and flounces

Cutter's Must

When stitching pieces, pay attention to the notches - they must match!

  • From main fabric:
    • Back – 1 piece
    • Front – 1 piece
    • Neckline facing – 1 piece
    • Sleeve – 2 pieces
  • From main fabric 1:
    • Cuff – 2 pieces
    • Flounce – 2 pieces

Tip: Knit fabric pieces are stitched with a special elastic or narrow zigzag stitch. The hem allowance is topstitched with a twin needle or on a coverstitch machine to maintain elasticity. You can also stitch pieces directly on a 3- or 4-thread overlocker.
