Tech. Description

Knit Sweatshirt with Integrated Pocket and Cuffs

A women's hip-length knit sweatshirt with sleeves cut in one with the front and back, a two-piece stand collar, cut-on cuffs turned up to the right side and a front pocket formed by folding the lower front edge upwards. Made for dense, low-stretch knit fabric.

When To Wear

  • In autumn and spring with jeans or straight trousers.
  • Over a T-shirt or a thin top for everyday wear.

Key Design Features

Silhouette: Straight, loose body cut from only three pieces: back on the fold, front on the fold and the collar stand.

Length: Hip length, straight hem.

Collar: Stand collar of two pieces with a centre back seam, folded and seamed along the upper edge, then set into the neckline.

Sleeves: Long, cut in one with the body; the sleeve edges are joined together with the shoulder and side seams.

Pockets: Cut-on pocket at the front hem: the lower front is folded upwards and divided by vertical lines of stitching according to the markings.

Back: One piece cut on the fold, with no centre back seam.

Finishing: Lower edges of the front, back and sleeves bound with bias binding; the cut-on cuffs are seamed from the right side, turned up and secured along the sleeve edges.

Level Of Difficulty

Beginner. Few pieces and straight seams; the only details needing care are stopping the seams exactly at the cuff marking and clipping the allowance there.

Fabric Recommendations

Dense double-faced knit fabric with low stretch, made from natural or blended fibres.

Additional Supplies

  • Bias binding (approximate length marked on the front pattern piece)

Cutter's Must

If the patterns have a double contour, seam allowances are included. If the contour is single, seam allowances are not included. Seam allowances: all seams 1 cm; hem allowance for the sweatshirt bottom and sleeve, along the upper edge of the integrated pocket – 0 cm. Attention! First, print out the paper patterns and lay them out on the fabric width (fabric width can be from 90cm to 150cm) to determine how much material you will need (do not forget to account for paired and symmetrical pieces). When stitching pieces, pay attention to the notches - they must match!

  • From main fabric:
    • Back - 1 piece on fold
    • Front - 1 piece on fold
    • Collar stand – 2 pieces

Tip: Knit fabric pieces are stitched with a special elastic or narrow zigzag stitch. When serging, trim allowances to 0.8 cm. Hem allowance is topstitched with a twin needle to maintain elasticity. You can also stitch pieces directly on a 3- or 4-thread overlock machine.

Sewing Instructions

  1. Bind the lower edge of the front with bias binding. Fold the integrated pocket upwards and secure with vertical stitches, according to the markings. Fasten the side edges together.
  2. Bind the lower edge of the back with bias binding.
  3. Stitch the shoulder seams, simultaneously with the sleeve edges, strictly up to the marking line of the integrated cuff. Slash the allowance at the marking. Serge the allowance and press towards the back. Stitch the integrated cuff seam from the right side. Serge the allowance and press.
  4. Bind the sleeve hem with bias binding. Stitch the side seams strictly up to the marking line of the integrated cuff. Slash the allowance at the marking. Serge the allowance and press towards the back. Stitch the integrated cuff seam from the right side. Serge the allowance and press. Turn the integrated cuff to the right side and secure along the sleeve edges.
  5. Stitch the collar stand seam. Press the allowance open. Fold the collar stand pieces right sides together and bind the upper edge. Slash the allowances. Turn the inner collar stand to the wrong side, straighten the seam and press. Attach the collar stand to the neckline, serge the allowance and press.
