CUTTER'S MUST
From main fabric:
- Front – 1 piece on fold
- Back – 1 piece on fold
- Sleeve – 2 pieces
- Front facing – 1 piece
- Back facing – 2 pieces
Tip: Cut pieces from knit fabrics are stitched with a special elastic or narrow zigzag stitch. The hem allowance is topstitched with a twin needle or on a coverstitch machine to maintain elasticity. You can also stitch pieces directly on a 3- or 4-thread overlocker.
Sewing Instructions
- Overlock the outer edge of the front facing. Place the front facing onto the front, right sides together, and stitch the lower edge. Turn the facing to the wrong side and topstitch along the marked line.
- Stitch the shoulder seams. Overlock the allowances and press them towards the back.
- Set the sleeves into the open armholes. Overlock the allowances and press them towards the sleeve.
- Stitch the center seam of the back facing. Press the allowances open. Overlock the outer edge of the back facing. Align the side edges of the front and back, inserting the front between the back and the back facing. Stitching the sleeve edges, side seam, and hemming the bottom are done in one continuous seam. Trim the allowances at the curves, turn the back facing to the wrong side, and topstitch along the marked lines.
- Cut (if not ready-made) a bias binding 4 cm wide and equal to the neckline length + 5 cm. Fold the bias binding in half lengthwise, right side out, and press. Place the binding along the neckline edge on the right side and stitch. Clip the allowances. Turn the binding to the wrong side and topstitch along the fold onto the main piece. Press the seam.
- Fold the integrated cuff to the wrong side. Fold up the sleeve hem allowance and topstitch. Turn the integrated cuff to the right side.
