Tech. Description

V-Neck Gathered Yoke Long Sleeve Blouse

A women's hip-length blouse with a V-neck, a pointed front yoke and a straight back yoke, both with gathers below, a front button placket and full long sleeves gathered into buttoned cuffs.

When To Wear

  • For the office and everyday wear in spring and autumn, with trousers or a straight skirt.
  • Worn loose over jeans or tucked into a high-waisted skirt.

Key Design Features

Silhouette: Loose fit, with fullness gathered under the front and back yokes; straight hem at hip level.

Neckline: Collarless V-neck finished with front and back neckline facings. The front yokes run down to a point at the placket and frame the neckline.

Front: Two fronts gathered into the front yokes; a separate button placket, made of an outer and an inner layer, runs from the neckline to the hem and closes with five buttons.

Back: Back yoke cut on the fold; the back, also cut on the fold, is gathered into it.

Sleeves: Set-in long sleeves with a slit at the lower edge, topstitched 0.1 cm from the fold. The lower edge is gathered into a cuff fastened with two buttons.

Finishing: Yoke seams pressed upwards and serged; hem turned under 1 cm and then 1.5 cm and topstitched.

Level Of Difficulty

Intermediate. Gathering into pointed yokes, a two-layer front placket stitched in the ditch, a faced V-neck, sleeve slits and cuffs.

Sewing Instructions

  1. Fuse interfacing to two Placket pieces, the Cuffs, the Back Neckline Facing and the Front Neckline Facings.
  2. Run a gathering stitch along the upper edge of the Back and gather. Stitch the Back Yoke to the Back, press the seam allowances upwards and serge.
  3. Stitch the outer Placket to the Front and press the seam allowances towards the placket. Place the inner Placket on it right sides together and stitch along the upper (neckline) edge and the front edge. Trim the corner, turn right side out and press. Fold under the inner edge of the inner Placket and stitch it in the ditch of the outer placket seam.
  4. Run a gathering stitch along the upper edge of the Front and gather. Stitch the Front Yoke to the Front (at the neckline the lower edge of the yoke extends 1 cm beyond the upper edge of the Front), press seam allowances upwards and serge.
  5. Stitch side and shoulder seams, press seam allowances towards the back and serge.
  6. Stitch the shoulder seams of the Back Neckline Facing and Front Neckline Facings, press the seam allowances open. Serge the outer edge. Place the facing on the garment right sides together and stitch around the neckline. Clip the seam allowances at the curves, turn the facing to the wrong side and press. Tack the facing to the garment at the shoulder seams and yoke seams.
  7. Serge sleeve edges separately. Stitch the sleeve seam from the armhole to the slit mark, press seam allowances open. Topstitch the slit 0.1 cm from the fold. Set sleeves into armholes, press seam allowances and serge. Run a gathering stitch along the lower edge of the sleeve and gather.
  8. Fold the Cuff in half lengthwise right sides together and stitch the short ends. Turn right side out and press. Stitch the outer side of the cuff to the sleeve, fold under the seam allowance of the inner side and stitch it in the ditch of the cuff seam.
  9. Fold the bottom hem of the garment inwards by 1 cm, then by 1.5 cm and topstitch.
  10. On the right placket, make buttonholes; on the left, sew on buttons. Make buttonholes and sew on buttons on the cuffs.
