Tech. Description

V-Neck Blouse with Tie Front and Tab Sleeves

A women's hip-length pull-on blouse with a self-lined V-neck front that ends in ties knotted at the centre front hem, extended shoulders with turn-back armhole cuffs and buttoned shoulder tabs.

When To Wear

  • In summer, with shorts, jeans or a straight skirt.
  • For holidays and weekends, as a light top.

Key Design Features

Silhouette: Straight, loose fit; the front ties draw the front hem into a knot.

Length: Hip length.

Neckline: V-neck at the front, faced by the inner front; back neckline finished with a 4 cm bias strip.

Sleeves: No separate sleeves: the extended shoulder is finished at the armhole with a folded cuff, sewn into a ring and turned back.

Front: Outer and inner front, each cut on the fold, stitched together along the neckline, the lower edge and the ties, then turned. The back is sandwiched between them at the shoulder seam.

Back: One piece cut on the fold, hem turned up 2 cm and topstitched.

Finishing: Two-layer shoulder tabs with a rounded end, caught in the cuff seam at the shoulder and held with one button each, sewn through the garment.

Level Of Difficulty

Beginner. A self-lined front turned out in one piece, a bias-bound back neck, simple cuffs and tabs; no closures to sew.

Fabric Recommendations

Blouse fabrics of natural or blended fibres.

Additional Supplies

  • 2 buttons
  • Bias binding 4 cm wide, length of the back neckline plus 4 cm (or cut it from the main fabric)

Cutter's Must

  • From main fabric:
    • Back – 1 piece (cut on fold)
    • Front – 2 pieces (cut on fold; outer and inner front)
    • Cuff – 2 pieces
    • Shoulder Strap – 4 pieces

Sewing Instructions

When stitching parts, pay attention to the notches - they must match!

  1. Cut (or use ready-made) bias binding 4 cm wide and a length equal to the back neckline length + 4 cm. Fold the bias binding in half lengthwise, right side out, and press. Place the binding on the back neckline edge on the right side and stitch. Fold the binding to the wrong side, clip the allowances, and topstitch along the fold to the main piece. Press the seam.
  2. Place the outer and inner Front pieces right sides together and stitch the neckline. Clip the allowances. Stitch the bottom edge and the tie. Clip allowances at curves, trim at corners. Turn the pieces right side out and press.
  3. Stitch the shoulder seam, sandwiching the Back between the outer and inner Front pieces. Turn the pieces right side out, press the seam.
  4. Stitch the side seams, press allowances towards the back and serge.
  5. Place the Shoulder Strap pieces right sides together in pairs and stitch along the long and rounded sides. Trim allowances, turn right side out, and press.
  6. Stitch each Cuff into a ring, press allowances open. Fold the Cuff in half lengthwise, right side out, and press. Place the Cuff on the wrong side of the armhole edge and stitch, inserting the Shoulder Strap at the shoulder seam. Serge allowances. Turn the cuff towards the armhole.
  7. Serge the bottom allowance of the back, press to the wrong side, and topstitch.
  8. Sew the buttons through the Shoulder Straps and the garment.
