Tech. Description

Tie Front V-Neck Puff Sleeve Blouse

A hip-length women's knit top with a V-neck that ends in ties knotted at the centre front, short set-in sleeves gathered at the cap, and a centre seam on both front and back. Sewn in thin knit fabric with medium stretch.

When To Wear

  • In spring and summer with jeans, trousers or a skirt.
  • Under a jacket or cardigan for the office: the tie gives the neckline a finished look without jewellery.

Key Design Features

Silhouette: Close to the body, straight through the hips.

Length: Hip length.

Neckline: V-neck with two ties extending from the front neckline edges, finished together with the neckline by an interfaced facing and tied in a knot at the centre front.

Sleeves: Short set-in sleeves, gathered along the top of the cap.

Front: Two front pieces joined by a centre front seam.

Back: Two back pieces joined by a centre back seam.

Finishing: Neckline edge topstitched 0.1 cm from the edge to keep it from stretching; hems of the body and sleeves turned up and topstitched, with a twin needle to keep the stretch.

Level Of Difficulty

Intermediate. Sewing knit fabric with an elastic or narrow zigzag stitch, a faced V-neckline with ties that needs clipping and trimming at the corners, and gathered sleeve caps.

Fabric Recommendations

Thin knit fabric with medium stretch, made from natural or blended fibres.

Additional Supplies

  • Fusible interfacing for knits (front and back neckline facings)

Cutter's Must

  • From main fabric:
    • Back – 2 pieces
    • Front – 2 pieces
    • Sleeve – 2 pieces
    • Back neckline facing – 1 piece
    • Front neckline facing – 2 pieces
  • From fusible interfacing:

Sewing Instructions

When stitching pieces, pay attention to the notches - they must match!

  1. Fuse interfacing to the relevant pieces.
  2. Stitch the center front seam. Serge the allowance and press to the left side.
  3. Stitch the side and shoulder seams, press allowances towards the back and serge.
  4. Stitch the center seam of the front facings. Press allowances open. Stitch the shoulder seams of the neckline facings, press allowances open. Serge the outer edge. Place the facing on the garment right sides together, stitch the neckline edge and ties. Clip allowances at curves, trim at corners. Turn to the right side, straighten, press. Stitch a decorative – securing stitch 0.1 cm from the neckline to prevent stretching.
  5. Along the upper of the sleeve cap, stitch with a loosened upper thread and gather. Stitch the sleeve seam, press allowances towards the back and serge. Set sleeves into armholes, press allowances and serge.
  6. Serge the bottom edge of the garment and sleeve hem, press to the wrong side and topstitch.
