Flared Skirt With Scalloped Yoke

Fabric & Materials

Fabric recommendations: Silk SATIN or heavy SATIN, thin TULLE (preferably two shades, e.g., milky and creamy white). Also needed: ZIPPER; FUSIBLE INTERFACING; metal or plastic BONING; ready-made underskirt of stiff TULLE, LACE TRIM 1.5-2 cm wide. For finishing: LACE TRIM 1.5-2 cm wide is needed to cover seams. Also, SATIN BIAS BINDING is needed for the "BONING".

CUTTER'S MUST

If the patterns have a double contour, they include SEAM ALLOWANCES. If the contour is single, the patterns do not include SEAM ALLOWANCES. SEAM ALLOWANCES: All seams - 1 cm. ATTENTION! First, print out the paper patterns and lay them out on the fabric width (fabric width should be at least 150 cm) to determine how much material you will need.

  • From main fabric:
    • Back yoke – 1 piece
    • Front yoke – 2 pieces
    • Skirt gore – 6 pieces
    • Waistband – 1 piece
  • FROM FUSIBLE INTERFACING:
    • Waistband – 1 piece

Sewing Instructions

  1. Reinforce the waistband piece with fusible interfacing.
  2. Overlock the upper edges of the gores. Overlock the lower edge of the back yoke. Attach the gores to the back yoke (start and end stitching precisely at the marked gore joining line), press the seam allowances open. Stitch the gores together, press the seam allowances open and overlock.
  3. Overlock the lower edge of the front yoke. Attach the gores to the front yoke (start and end stitching precisely at the marked gore joining line), press the seam allowances open. Stitch the gores together, press the seam allowances open and overlock.
  4. Overlock the left side edges separately on each piece. Stitch the left side seam from the zipper mark to the bottom. Press the seam allowances open. Insert the zipper. Stitch the right side edge, press the seam allowances open and overlock.
  5. Fold the waistband lengthwise in half, right sides together, and stitch the short sides and the transitional end, clip the allowances at the mark. Turn the waistband right side out, press. Attach the outer side of the waistband to the skirt, fold the allowance of the inner side inwards and topstitch into the attaching seam.
  6. Overlock the bottom edge of the skirt, press it to the wrong side and topstitch.
  7. Overlock the buttonhole on the waistband and sew on the button.
