From Lining Fabric:
From the lining, cut the below pieces using the main patterns with the following modifications:
- Upper Center Back – exclude Back Neckline Facing area, cut 2.
- Upper Side Back – exclude Back Neckline Facing area, cut 2.
- Lower Center Back – cut 2.
- Lower Side Back – cut 2.
- Upper Front Lining – 2 pieces.
- Lower Center Front - exclude Center Front Facing area, cut 2.
- Lower Side Front – cut 2.
- Sleeve – cut 2.
From Fusible Interfacing:
- Back Neckline Facing – 1 piece
- Center Front Facing – 2 pieces
- Center Front – 2 pieces
- Lower Center Front – 2 pieces
Important Information
Before cutting your fabric:
- Print and lay out pattern pieces to determine yardage.
- Check mirrored pieces, notches, and grainlines.
- For patterned fabrics, align carefully for symmetry.
Assembly Instructions
Preparation
Fuse Interfacing
From the wrong side, apply fusible interfacing to the Back Neckline Facing, Center Front Facings, Center Front and Lower Center Front pieces - Press thoroughly with a hot iron and press cloth until fully bonded.
Back Assembly
- Stitch the Upper Side Back pieces to the Upper Center Back pieces, and the Lower Side Back pieces to the Lower Center Back pieces; press seam allowances open.
- Stitch the center back seams of the upper and lower back; press seam allowances open.
- Join upper and lower back sections together, aligning seams; press allowances open.
Front Assembly
- Stitch the Side Front pieces to the Center Front pieces; press allowances open.
- Stitch the Lower Side Front pieces to the Lower Center Front pieces; press allowances open.
- Join upper and lower front sections together; press allowances open.
Main Body Assembly
- Join shoulder seams; press open.
- Stitch side seams; press allowances open.
Sleeves
- Stitch sleeve seams; press allowances open.
- Set the sleeves into the armholes, matching the notches and easing the sleeve cap at the top.
Facings
- Stitch the Center Front Facings to the Back Neckline Facing at the shoulders; press allowances open.
- With right sides together, stitch facings to the coat along the front edges and neckline.
- Clip curves, trim corners, turn the facings to the wrong side, and press for a clean edge.
Lining Assembly
- Assemble the lining in the same order as the main garment, leaving an opening in the left sleeve seam for turning.
- Stitch the lining to the inner edges of the Center Front Facings and Back Neckline Facing.
Hem & Sleeves
- Stitch the lining to the hem of the dress-coat and to the sleeve hems.
- Turn the coat right side out through the sleeve opening.
- Close the opening neatly by hand or machine stitch.
Finishing
- Work buttonholes on the right and left fronts as marked.
- Sew on the main and inside buttons.
- Give the garment a final press.
