Additional Supplies
- 70 cm cotton lining fabric (90 cm wide)
- 60 cm fusible interfacing (140 cm wide)
- 1 m bias tape (1.5 cm wide), either self-made from lining fabric or pre-made with fixed edges
- 1 zipper (20 cm length)
- 1 button (15 mm diameter)
- 1 metal hook and bar closure for trousers
Sewing Instructions
- Reinforce the belt pieces with fusible interfacing (Heat-adhesive interfacings are pressed onto the wrong side of the piece with a strongly heated iron).
- Place the pocket opening facing and side wrong side onto the right side of the front pocket bag according to the corresponding markings, baste along the edges and stitch with a frequent small zigzag along the lower contours.
- On each side, create a "Pocket in the side seam" - Stitch the pocket bags to the front and back parts of the garment according to the markings and press the seam allowances towards the pocket bags.
- Align the edges and stitch the side seams and the pocket contour.
- From the right side, lay a 0.5 cm securing stitch along the pocket opening of the front.
- Overlock the seam allowances; baste the pocket bag to the waist edge.
- Stitch the darts of the back and press them towards the sides.
- On each back, create a "Welt pocket with two facings" - Press the facings in half lengthwise, right side in.
- Pin the facings, turned in opposite directions, onto the right side of the main garment according to the markings.
- Place the pocket bag from lining fabric onto the lower facing, place the pocket bag from main fabric onto the upper facing and stitch at a distance of 5 mm on both sides of the markings.
- Cut the fabric in the center between the stitches, tapering to a point at the ends of the stitches, turn the pocket bags to the wrong side and fold the facings by 1 cm.
- Topstitch the free edges of the facings onto the pocket bags with a zigzag stitch.
- Fold both pocket bags, align and stitch along the contour.
- From the wrong side, stitch the ends of the facing onto the triangles of the main fabric; baste the pocket bag edges to the waist edge.
- Stitch the side and inseam seams.
- Stitch the center seam of the front up to the fastener.
- Face the right underlap, turn out and press.
- Create a "zipper with an attached flap" - Place the left underlap onto the corresponding fastener edge, right sides together, and stitch along the edge.
- Press the seam allowances towards the underlap and lay a securing stitch; press the underlap to the wrong side of the garment.
- Pin the zipper, turned sideways, to the right fastener edge, place the underlap folded in half wrong side in on top, aligning the edges, and stitch all layers; straighten the underlap and lay a securing stitch along the edge of the zipper.
- Stitch the second side of the zipper to the left underlap.
- Overlock the seam allowances and stitch the left underlap to the main garment.
- From the wrong side, lay a securing zigzag stitch along the lower edges of the underlaps.
- Face the belt loop piece, turn out, press and divide into 6 parts.
- Pin the belt loops, turned downwards, to the waist edge according to the markings.
- Face the 4 cm extension under the fastener on the left belt and stitch the end of the right belt.
- Stitch each belt piece on one side to the corresponding sections of the waist edge.
- Face the edge of the inner side of the belt with bias binding.
- Stitch the center seam of the back and the belt.
- Fold the belt and hand-stitch the inner side of the belt with a blind stitch.
- Fold the belt loops upwards, fold under the edges and stitch onto the belt.
- Overlock the hem, press inwards and hand-stitch with a blind stitch.
- Work a buttonhole on the left end of the belt and sew on a button.
- Install a hook at the base of the zipper tape.
